Avoid Fri morning to Sat afternoon?
That's probably the best time to drive from baton rouge to houston with the storm hitting lafayette/lake charles mid day friday.
ETA: Definitely thursday night.

Just for the record- there were 92 mph wind gusts in BR during Gustav. Gusts are what do the damage and are what’s scary. And 92 mph wind gusts recorded at the airport likely don’t represent the highest gusts seen in other parts of the city. Obviously there have been many more Much worse storms in other cities but it was the worst wind event in just about everyone’s collective memories in BR. Not many storms have hit BR like that, ever, so its the best frame of reference and since there is a very large contingent of BR residents here you should realize the Gustav discussion is understandable. It’s very much like Charley references for us here in Orlando. We only have had winds like that here during a storm 45 years prior. It was the strongest winds I’ve ever experienced (86mph sustained and 105 gusts will make an impression on you)
Dude I know. My sister still lived there for gustav. I was just trolling to pass the time.
In all honesty Gustav is one of the worst storms on record for damage to electrical infrastructure in Louisiana. I know at the time it was like second in that catagory. I know since, Laura for sure was worse, dunno of any others.

Oh man I can remember Mike Graham on tv hustling those tracking charts from McDonalds. My old man taught me latitude and longitude tracking storms on those things.

Would you evacuate/spend a long weekend at a a friends place in Birmingham? (I have Monday off of work)
(Info:In South BR (near LSU) with a Newborn. I have a generator so not worried about power. Worried about neighbors big tall water oaks though)
Traveling with a newborn scares the shite out of me.

Was just briefed on Hurricane Delta, and spoke with @GovAbbott of Texas and @LouisianaGov John Bel Edwards. Please heed the directions of your State and Local Officials. We are working with them very closely — please be prepared, be careful, and be safe!

That was just as much about how long the Baton Rouge area had gone without a storm than it was the strength of Gustav though.

That's like 400 miles.
Sounds like it's going to be out pretty quick, so maybe move a little east. Alabama will be getting it through Sunday, so you would be driving back in bad weather for a while.

I am in westlake (building in LC), not sure what we are going to do. I am sure they will call a mandatory and my wife will want to leave I am sure.
I have a whole home so I just assume stay. We have no trees left that could hit the house. But Im a puss and my wife runs our house hold...so long story short, I will prolly do what she wants.

Much worse now, 30yrs after that second picture
Yeah. That was 3 years after Juan.
Since then there has been:
Andrew
Danny
Isidore
Lili
Cindy
Katrina (north wind but strong enough to erode)
Rita
Gustav
Ike
Isaac
and many other weaker storms that each took a small toll but combined is significant.
