I wondered the same thing earlier today. Steve Cap said in his FB live this afternoon that Gustuv was really slow moving snd we had sustained tropical force winds in the BR area for 24-36 hours. He said delta should be in and out in about 12 hours
IDK why people misremember Gustav so much, especially a pro met.
Gustav was never a slow moving storm. BR did not sit in TS sustained winds for 24 hours. BR never experienced sustained hurricane winds period.
Gustav was moving 15-17 mph from a day before landfall until it dissipated. Gustav made landfall around 10AM and dissipated within 18 hours. As mentioned a few times in this thread, the maximum sustained winds in BR were like 61 MPH.
BR residents talk about Gustav like Mississippi residents talk about Camille.
ETA - not trying to call out the poster who is simply reposting what the guy said on FB.

BR is not “fricked”. Some wind, some rain, probably some power outages and downed trees. We’re not talking sheering off the siding and leveling houses
I am no doomcaster/wishcaster, but I remember Gustav and this presents a good chance to be significantly worse.
I really hope I am wrong, but it looks like it will take a lot of good fortune for that to be the case.

The NHC. They weigh all models and data that is available for input.

And that still caused 2 week power outages in older parts of the city. Hopefully the system has been hardened since then, but yeah BR has never seen hurricane force winds before.

You’ve posted that four times (yes, I went through your shitty post history) in this thread.

How does New Orleans ,Slidell look like if landfall stays where it is now? Appreciate your knowledge, hell my parents in Slidell scared to death. Guess when you are 82 you get scared easier. Covid19 and all these hurricanes took a year off both their lives .

It is still forecast to cross over Lafayette or a slight bit east. BR will be 40-50 miles east of that. Thats only if it stays as is.
Correct. It has moved west quite a bit. It just has never been projected East of Laffy except by the Euro and a few posters. Delta is projected to be moving NE at landfall. It won’t be moving due north at landfall like Laura. Even if Delta made landfall where Laura did in Cameron, the center would likely pass over the Welsh or Jennings area. It wouldn’t take much of a bump East for BR to catch some really nasty weather. Even at it’s current projection, it’ll be a little rough.
