An hour into a Delta flight from Amsterdam to Detroit, the plane had to turn around after maggots reportedly fell from an overhead cabin onto economy passengers.
Delta Flight DL133 returned to Schiphol Tuesday "after a suitcase containing rotten fish in the overhead bin broke open and maggots began to fall on the unsuspecting passengers," the Daily Mail reported.
Once the airplane landed, passengers exited, the cabin was cleaned and the suitcase involved was put in a bag to be burned.
One of the flight's passengers told the Daily Mail that Delta staff identified the owner of the rotting suitcase and detained them on the plane after all other passengers disembarked.
The passenger, named Kelce, said those inconvenienced were given 8,000 air miles, hotel room compensation and a $30 meal ticket if they were delayed overnight from continuing their travels.

All this after they had a KLM plane also from Amsterdam turn around 2 hours into a transatlantic flight because only one toilet in the whole plane was left functional

Good thing it was an airbus and not a Boeing or else the poor bugs wouldn’t have survived

Watch To Catch a Smuggler... The amount of random food people try to bring in is crazy.

So they had rotten fish and live maggots dumped on them mid flight and Delta said here’s $110 + one night hotel comp for the inconvenience? Airlines fricking suck.

Well if the fricking rotting fish and maggots made their way out of the bag and overhead compartment all on their own, my assertion is it was probably pretty obvious something was fishy. Flight attendants don’t pay attention worth shite and they all go around the cabin securing the overhead compartments before takeoff. But they sure were not eager to bark at passengers with masks below the nose during covid.

I’m not sure I expect a flight attendant to know a bag is smelling versus just a passenger smelling like arse.
The last thing I would suspect is a bag that was scanned, inspected, and maybe assessed by a dog.

It would be my guess that the passenger(s) that the maggots actually fell on are probably in a different category of compensation than those that were just inconvenienced by having to catch another flight. But that's just my guess. I could certainly be wrong.
