Same people who limit my scope now. LSBN and AANP.

Interesting. In TX NP must have schedule 2, 2N written by a physician.
Now when we petition the LSBN to add controlled substances, we have to discuss the reason for wanting those schedules. We are strictly forbidden to manage weight loss, chronic pain, or prescribe to relatives (which I thought was pretty common sense but I understand why they specifically say it).

Yep, luckily for those in the thread earlier who were championing the increased access to care they feel this bill will provide (which it wont), patients seeking primary care providers never need those services.

Anyone else in here remember the "beat the flag burner" bill from the early 90's?
This bill made it (only) a $25 fine for beating up someone who is burning the American flag in protest of something.

If yall didn't know Tigerdoc thinks his crusade on THE OT LOUNGE of TIGERDROPPINGS and its relatively high location on Google is going to sway this bill............
He is like the most interesting Doc in the world......he onced saved a man's life, after realizing the man didn't need saving.

No, he's standing for what he thinks is best for his patients and his profession. I'm sure I'd be the same way if some gung-ho nurses wanted to come in and do the same thing do without much extra training.

What if we let the LPNs become NPs without school ? That would be unwise. same deal

I'd love to know your medical background, i.e. training, experience, etc.

I think you're on to something. RN school is 4 years with first two years totally irrelevant to the work involved in nursing. We could solve the nursing shortage by letting LPNs and CNAs perform the work of RNs. Their schools are 18 months long versus the RN/BSN which is 4 years with 2 years of fluff college courses. More folks in the pipeline bypassing the ridiculous demands of BSN school.
So basically 18 months versus 24 months. Sending this to the my representative now...

man you never know who is reading / lurking, there has been a lot of great discussion in this thread, most of it very civil that has opened the dialogue and had some great questions and answers, I do not think it would be too far fetched for a legislator to have been following

This thread is more informational than those propaganda videos the NPs are floating. Really where else would you get info on this bill besides right here?

What do you want to know about me for DaleMurphy? I went to lowly nursing school and l was poorly trained in the surgical ICU at Tulane for 4 years....while barely learning how to titrate drips, recover heart transplants, or CABGs, I wiped arse and wished I was a doctor. After realizing I could just never cut it as a doctor because med school is so hard I took the easy route.
I went back for 32 months to CRNA school, 28 of which was specifically hands on training in the operating room. I logged 1128 cases and including my school and commited time at hospitals invested more 5000 logged hours to it.
I barely know anything about what I do even though myself and other NP students took Med Phys with the docs and passed the same test.
After I even had to take a board cerification and I have to get credentialed at each site that I practice in Texas.
These days I'm committed to helping family practice residents learn how to intubate with a glide scope because they don't have the skill necessary to do it without a camera.
Most of the time, I'm poorly prepared for my cases and I consistently doubt my plan of care because all the while I'm wondering why I didn't go to med school so I can tell someone how smart I am.
Tiger doc has blown a bunch of shite up in this thread claiming false case and clinical hours for a Nps that he thinks are impractically underprepared for their specific speciality of care.
Tommorow I'm going to put a heart patient to sleep, and an NP will work with a cardio thoracic surgeon. While the NP dangerously harvest the vein from the patients leg, the surgeon will perform sternotomy and expose the heart. He will be super nervous about the skill of the NP the entire time.

Feel your pain bro. Fa reel. I hope my patients make it out alive tomorrow from the or. There won't be an anesthesiologist in house. Just me and the surgeon. It'll be dicey.

At least you're man enough to admit it.
Posted on 5/18/16 at 9:41 pm to SmackoverHawg
Yup, I'm also man enough to admit that most surgeons wished they went to CRNA school.
Posted on 5/18/16 at 9:44 pm to Success
Success, God forbid the public ever found out that a collaboration between a CRNA and a surgeon is perfectly legal and pays out almost exactly the same as a solo anesthesiologist.
However, when medical direction occurs and they "direct" us it cost more for the patient.

I told him that not getting into med school was probably the best thing that ever happened to him.
