BP's response to kill the well was about as good as possible considering the circumstances. The sad part was the accident was avoidable.
RIP to the men who lost their lives and their families.

Didn't know any of the rig guys but knew a big shot clean up guy who came out of retirement (bc he made millions when he was still young) to basically drive trucks around to make it look like they were doing something. He said he know a BP exec who had him do the "look like you are doing something" kinda thing. He made a lot more money doing this for a year. Another guy was a chem engineer and he said they played merry go round during clean up.

I remember smelling the oil in Metry when there were strong SE winds blowing..

I remember I was working at a casino when the hands started getting their settlement money. They were all in there blowing it like they were rich. There was one guy who called himself the backpage king. He'd give me $100 a few times per week to ring his room if I saw cops show up. He told me that he'd gotten about $1.5 million from the thing. He was staying in the casino hotel full time. His plan was to spend the money on hookers and blow and then go back to work afterwards. He was there for about a month.

Simmons sporting goods got their beak wet as did many dirt farmers in La on that disaster.

I worked on there for 8 years. Knew many on the rig including 6 of the 11 very well.
Wow. It has to be surreal seeing that horrible incident play out in a movie format. I think Peter Berg (director of the movie and movies like Lone Survivor, Friday Night Lights) does a great job to show the humanity of people in his movies.
God bless all that were on there…just going to work and doing their jobs. Horrible for those families that lost members.

I met Gordon Jones a week or so before the accident. We were at a crawfish boil at a mutual friend. He spent the entire time playing with his young son while his very pregnant wife sat in the shade all day. Every time I think of the accident, I think of Gordon teaching his son how to swing his little wiffle ball driver while his wife watched on. I guess his son would be old enough to post on this site by now, so if you're reading, from my brief interaction with you and your father, he was a good man.
Man, heart crushing.

Remember it well and rewatched the movie last night. Any baws here know some of the guys that were on the rig?
I worked with one of the BP guys about 10 years ago who had to testify. He wasn't directly in with the decision making but the experience had obviously aged him significantly.

The movie was a very poor depiction. As someone who spent time on deep water rigs I found it to be almost entirely Hollywood garbage.

Louisiana and coastal residents put on a master class at fleecing
BP and their intense desire to make it all go away opened the floodgates for the fleecing.

Didn’t know any of the guys but that supply boat front and center in the OP was ours that we sent over from Marlin. Little over 30 miles from us.

I was on Air Med 1 that night. We got out there and landed on BP Nakika to transport casualties
