The disaster onboard was tragic. The other potential impact--oil leakage--was not discussed publicly much for 7-8 days. As the people of Plaquemines and St. Bernard Parishes grew concerned, Billy Nungesser and (now Father) Craig Tafarro started asking WTF would come of this and elevated the disaster to a crazy level.
And yes, Louisiana freaked out and BP threw money at the problem.
Wild times in coastal Louisiana.
In this video, Billy confused Mary Landry of the USCG with worthless senator Mary Landrieu. Both stunk regardless.

They had a thread on here about some guys fishing close to it as it was happening. Chicken would have to dig into the archives
I know a guy from Abita that was fishing near it when it blew up. He showed me photos on his phone, they were really close when it happened.

The sad part was the accident was avoidable.
I know it's pure greed, but it never ceases to amaze me that a company that yields hundreds of billion of dollars a year won't spend a fraction of that to properly maintain their sites.

The movie was a very poor depiction. As someone who spent time on deep water rigs I found it to be almost entirely Hollywood garbage.
Yeah I can see that. But I do give Peter Berg credit in how he personalized the people in his movies. There is often little Easter eggs in his movie to put personal appearances or items in his movies of the real people and/or the family members. At least outwardly it appears he “honors” the real folks.

Malevich is just doing a James Carville impersonation and it is not so bad
It’s Malkovich. And it was terrible. Like his supposed to be Russian accent in Rounders. The guy is an awful actor.

Yep.
Rigs are outfitted with all sorts of safety features (SOLAS, etc) and it seemed most of Horizon's didn't function when needed.
