Don't want ice at any point and snow atop ice - may give some a false sense of security. If the amount of snowfall unfolds as suggested - good luck getting about, the secondary roads will be a mess and a canopy of trees will slow the melt and high temperatures will struggle to get above freezing as you will be in a virtual freezer chest

I guess Lake Pontchartrain could produce lake effect snow if the conditions are perfect, but SE Louisiana ain’t Buffalo,NY.

Lake affect snow around Buffalo due to Lake Erie is a very wild phenomenon for sure.

I don’t think Lake Pontchartrain can make lake effect snow. We don’t have the hills to create the orographic lift.

It’s looking like the BR and NO area will get more snow than the NorthShore area, and that’s ok with me as long as my son gets to at least see a couple inches.

Lawd. Consensus now appears to be that Lafayette metro area will get 8-10 inches.
One for the ages. Can’t wait for my employer to wait until 7am Tuesday to call it.

And it's a very small body of water in comparison to the great lakes. That being said it often knocks the steam out of thunderstorms coming down from the north during the summertime.
I've seen many times a line of storms coming down from the north looking rough thinking NOLA is about to get clobbered and they hit the lake and just collapse. By the time they hit the southshore it ends up being just a light to moderate rain and in some cases not even that.

You should have used the south central map that has 10 inches for Houston.

I think it is too small a body of water for lake effect to take hold. Also the water temperatures are too warm in comparison to Lake Erie. Is much larger at 56 miles across and over 250 miles long. Lake Erie is also fresh water compared to the brackish saline bay that is Lake Pontchartrain. Lake P has a maximum width of 24 miles across and 40 miles long.

Hate to say it but that same swath of area in South Louisiana got a 8-10 inches of rain in October and started an early crawfish season. Now it’s getting the snow on that same swath. The Crawfish are in control.

I would say the consensus is still 3-5"
