So I decided to go see if I could get a windshield over $1k through Satellite, who is known to be high as giraffe pussy.
A 2017 BMW Alpina B6 Gran Coupe with HUD and lane alert is just over $1k.
It is a $122k auto.
I don't think the deductible is a deciding factor in your life.

What company did you use?
safelite.
i was in miami and my good friend threw a coconut over the wall in his backyard not realizing my 4runner was parked on the other side.
to be fair, the guy charged $150 but there was an airbubble (worst thing ever for a new windshield) so he credited me $50 when they came out to fix it.
cool thing was, safelite is national so they replaced it in nashville because i had driven back already.

I didn't mean to if that's how you read it. What I meant was this - obviously the premium will go up if you drop to zero deductible. If you keep the zero ded for only 7 days, I find it hard to believe you would only owe prorated for 7 days. Meaning the insurance companies have to be hip to the switcheroo and have a minimum timeframe to keep that zero ded.
just leave it be for the remainder of the policy period. jesus christ.

Recently replaced the windshield on my 2016 Nissan and it was around $200 from Safelite - be sure to request the cash / no insurance claim price. Not worth the risk otherwise.

HUD and lane alert
I wasn't aware that these required a special windshield. Learn something new each day.
Then again, if you can afford a 125k vehicle, a 1k windshield is normal upkeep. I would imagine the oil changes at the foreign dealer probably aren't $60 either.

Insurance companies are not dumb. They know these games and they will win in the long run. They are like casinos. They win. The best you can hope for is to minimize loss.

Just paid $380 for a windshield on my wifes SUV.

1) It is fraud. Lying about the date of the loss in order to take advantage of a contract that was not in effect at the time of the loss is fraud.
2) Not only will the premium be higher for the time that the no deductible policy is in effect, the claim is almost certainly going to mean that the premium when the policy is reverted back to the normal deductible is going to be higher.
3) Your friend's an idiot.

You're only going to pay for a pro-rated premium increase for time period that you changed your coverage.
This appears suspicious as hell and are risking an investigation of insurance fraud over a couple hundred dollar deductible or even less than that premium endorsement charge to leave the dropped deductible on policy.

Only idiots pay extra for OEM windshields with the original logos.
Only reason I'd request OEM is due to the sensors in our cars. We have a Lexus and an Infiniti which both have rain sensing wipers and radar for collision alert/cruise control/lane departure systems. I have a deductible through my insurance and can request OEM glass through that. If it was just glass, then I wouldn't care. But in order to ensure those systems operate properly and get covered by any warranties/etc. I'm going OEM glass.

i love how his "friend" thinks he's come up with a way to outsmart the insurance company.
because, like, nobody has ever tried this before..i'm sure this will work out well for him.

Your friend will go away for insurance fraud and become Flo's ex-husband's bitch for 7-20 years.

Easier solution:
Find a dump truck, follow it for a few miles, then call the company and bitch and moan until they buy you a new windshield.
Thats what people try to do all the time to the company I work for..

I take it back, you're not an idiot. I have yet to own a car with rain sensing wipers, sensors to tell you you left your lane, blinker fliud, etc. This must be the premium features that take a vehicle from 30k to 130k.
I'm sure it's status and luxury; but I still don't get it.
