i love how his "friend" thinks he's come up with a way to outsmart the insurance company
He (me) says there's no way they're that dumb and will get you either for the deductible or a higher premium for a minimum period of time.

rain sensing wipers, sensors to tell you you left your lane
Well, the rain sensing wipers aren't there so much to tell you it's raining, but adjust the speed of the wipers to the amount of precipitation...which is handy.
As for the lane sensor...I have a sensor on my car that lets me know if there is a car in the next lane, and flashes brightly if I start to go into said lane...I have found that to be useful.

If you have glass coverage it has $0 deductible already

So I decided to go see if I could get a windshield over $1k through Satellite, who is known to be high as giraffe pussy.
A 2017 BMW Alpina B6 Gran Coupe with HUD and lane alert is just over $1k.
It is a $122k auto.
I don't think the deductible is a deciding factor in your life.
A windshield for a 2017 Corolla is 799.95

Never thought I'd care, but it came standard in my Lexus. Then when shopping for my wife's car, we mentioned it was something we wanted and they bumped us up to the next package for the same price. It sounds useless, but they are awesome. I never turn on wipers or adjust the speed. It does it for me. Starts raining, boom wipers go off. Slows down to that pesky amount of rain where it's either too fast or too slow, no issue since the sensor only makes them go off when there is a certain amount of water on the window. The collision and land departure are just safety features. But the cruise control is nice. Don't' have to turn off and re-adjust every time you get a slow car. I can drive 50+ miles without touching the accelerator or brake. I'll make sure to have the deductible for windshields on my insurance from now on, but I'd say those features are worth the few thousand they cost.....if you can reasonably afford it.
And my vehicles are much closer to 30k than they are to 130k. One was 39 and the other was 43. If you don't buy a full sized truck or SUV, vehicles aren't that expensive (and my wife's Infinity is a decent sized SUV). Well, it's expensive, but it's not 6 figure expensive.

With all the options, it is. Base window is $315.
Even the loaded up version is $740. More surprised the difference in price for areas of the country.

It is a option/rider you can add.
Lots of insurance that isn't cut rate includes it.

In many states, if you have comprehensive coverage, the deductible is $0 for windshields. Check with your insurance company.

You cannot get a 2017+ Corolla with a base windshield. They all come standard with those options. So you would be giving up all the safety tech you paid for.

Damn Corolla's are fancy as shite now.
Never knew that.
