Nope. He's still around. He's on Facebook if you have that. Look him up. First name is Gary. Nice guy. He also still sells the roses, just not on the street. He takes orders now.

I thought Gillis lived near St Francisville, or am I mixing him up with DTL?

There’s really only one acceptable answer here for #1....
That was the death of multiple Lynyrd Skynyrd band members in the plane crash where they were flying to Baton Rouge to perform at LSU.

Yeah, DTL lived on 61 in the house right before you get to the Audubon bridge

He was incredibly nice. Always talked to him, we had a giant bouquet of roses in our house. Were you around the the old Chelsea’s back then?

Was this the Givens kid from Tioga?
Yes. I believe so. I didn't know him. I just remembered about it since I was on campus for the Dale Brown basketball camp around the same time that summer.
Here is the news report archive...

BATON ROUGE, La. -- Sleepwalking is suspected in the death of a 17-year-old boy who plunged 12 stories from a dormitory window at Louisiana State University, police said Sunday.
The body of Kirk G. Givins of Pineville, La., was discovered Saturday by officials outside East Kirby Smith dormitory, housing site for hundreds of young participants in a conference on government.

For me, I was about to Graduate from LSU when OL Naeshall Menard committed suicide.
Didn't know him personally but it hit hard, thus he stands out 21 yrs later.

That school had a string of bizarre deaths of seniors or recent graduates for about 4 or 5 years. One kid left a moving vehicle while in a argument with his father, a stalker laid in wait for the campus beauty queen (stabbing and killing her), Givins, and there were a few others, IIRC, all during the 1980s.

Yep. Most likely caused by carbon monoxide in the cabin. The plane eventually crashed w/o a trace in the Atlantic Ocean. Do you remember Butch Baum? He used to advertise on the scoreboard years ago and was a huge booster. His plane took off from BR en route to AEX and crashed in a field in Oklahoma.
