Reading the thread about Zebbie opened my eyes to another tragic death at LSU. It seems like we’ve dealt with more than our share, but I realize Gainesville endured Danny Rolling and Ted Bundy terrorized FSU.

With that said...I know of Derrick Todd Lee and the victims.

Max Gruver and Ben Wynne carry sad stories as they pertain to fraternities.

I’ve also read up on the Melissa Montz case.

I was a student when the Edward Gay murders went down.

From a non-criminal standpoint, the Wally Pontiff death stopped everything in its tracks.

Are there any other high profile murders/deaths that have shocked the LSU community?

That coach who was hired by LSU and then died on an airplane on his way to Baton Rouge in 1980...what was that story? Creepy.

Wayde Simms, Kassie Federer (park place condominiums) LINK
The 3rd video in the link shows some of the wafb footage from the 90s. They finally found out who killed her last year.

That kid who was trampled at the PMAC concert. That one death was used by the media and politicians to set off a massive snowballing blitz of dumb laws that started BR’s decline from the safe den of rock n roll party debauchery that was the 80’s to the dangerous cracked out, fun police scoobiedoo wasteland it became by the late 90’s.

Foolish of me to leave out Wayde. Watching that was terrible.

That was Bo Rein. He was supposed to create an era of dominance. Never got the chance.

I was a guest of Burl Cain at the rodeo one year that included a tour of death row. Every single one of them sitting in those cells had a certain look about them, but I’ll never forget how DTL watched the women in our group. The guy is pure evil.

A HS kid fell/jumped from 12th floor of Kirby Smith sleepwalking while he was attending Boys State in 1981.

I know a nurse that worked at Angola for a bit. She said the isolation of death row caused him to lose his sanity (if he had any to begin with).

Wasn't there a frat death where pledges were blind folded on river road?

He had taken over as head coach at LSU and was on a recruiting trip. Left Shreveport to fly back on a Cessna and had to fly around a storm. Contact was lost and National Guard scrambled and found the plane still flying due east but no sign of anyone in the cockpit. Most likely died of hypoxia from cabin losing pressure. Plane eventually crashed in the Atlantic but no bodies ever recovered.
