Having enough to retire doesn’t mean you have to.

I got a feeling she's getting laid off. Shouldn't have posted that. Bad juju.

She was told directly this guy is retiring in 90 days. We are hiring you as a replacement. What am I supposed to do? Assume they were lying and a bunch of idiots?

They either lied to her, she misunderstood, or she is misrepresenting the situation to you. What do you guys have in writing?

So your wife took a job without something in writing saying she would get a full time job within a certain time frame?

Sounds like you have a dim witted wife.

If they told her it would be 90 days and now you’re at 5 months, something else is up. You have to look at this from every angle. It’s possible they think your wife isn’t quite ready for the responsibility yet. Or even worse - she’s not the good fit they thought they were hiring.

If she knows she is the best replacement and will succeed, it’s time to tell management to shite or get off the pot.

"He's retiring? Great. I'll put in my notice once he announces his retirement and has an end date."

Seems odd that a company would hire someone to replace a elderly employee that hasn't been let go yet. Why would they put themselves in a potentially ugly situation, especially if your wife was to tell this person she was hired to take his place in a moment of frustration.
Kudos for her for not doing that, but for them to be that trusting doesn't speak highly of their workplace policies.

My wife took a job because they are looking to replace an older employee. The guy is 71. It was communicated to her he would be retiring soon after

So they gave her a job that she applied for. The geezer's existence should have no bearing on her job. She wanted to work part-time or she would not have taken a part-time job.

He could work there three more years, then be replaced by Bob, from accounting, when he retires. She signed up for nothing.

So she’s currently making 6 figures working 20 hours a week?

Am I reading that right?

You don’t know this guy or his circumstances. You, your wife and your wife’s place of work are playing a dirty, deceitful game.

Actually works about 10 hours a week. They send her home most days at noon.

And you wonder why she's not moving up?

What business sends home good employees?

And she makes 100k?

Doesn't pass the smell test ..what field makes that cash...unless she's a stripper.
