How are the older baws in here dealing with it? Been doing the same job for 22 years. Pretty much empty nesters, and it sucks. Is there really anything else to look forward to?
Could be worth clearing out the cobwebs with a legit psychedelic retreat.

I have numbers on a whiteboard showing my days, weeks, and number of paychecks until retirement. I update it weekly.

Don’t know your financial situation but there are some jobs like teaching that can be rewarding. You could also coach a sport. I did that a few years and was popular as a coach because I had no favorites. My kids were grown and weren’t on the team.

But if I could only give you one good suggestion I would join a Charity cause and get involved. True happiness comes from helping others. I do Sleep in Heavenly Peace. We build and deliver beds to needy kids. The excitement of the kids when we set up their beds is great. Most of them are sleeping on the floor.

Volunteering is a great way to meet folks and get out of yourself. There is always a need and it can reinvent purpose in your life.
I joined a gym and genuinely enjoy the process. You never arrive but always can get a little better and stronger.
Then there are always hobbies. I been thinking a musical instrument or such. For some reason a harmonica is off the norm and may get me kicked out of my house but may give it a try soon.
Good luck and keep us posted on what you decide.

That’s as cool of charity as I have heard. Appreciate all you do for those kids.

Find something even outside of work that you can grow in, maybe working out or even a hobby

If you can find time, perhaps find a charity or non-profit specializing in a cause in which you're interested, then look into whether you can volunteer with them.

Helping others in need is known to be one of the most fulfilling activities.

I was just thinking the past few days about how bored I am these days. Basically retired two years ago. At the moment the things I have to look forward to, or that are on my bucket list for 2025 include LSU baseball and hopefully making my first pilgrimage to Omaha, and taking a trip up to the Little League World Series in PA and visiting Gettysburg. It those things come about next year I may post here offering to share a ride/accommodations if you want to hop in then.

Holiday/Christmas spirit? Bah, Humbug! I do, however, sometimes support fund raising for various causes, and buy stuff to give away to the Battered Women's Shelter. Hope they like the lingerie.

That sounds like a great organization.

OP, are you in social clubs/mens groups?

About 25 years ago i read an article that men who belong to a social club live considerably longer than men who don't. You could always join you local Lions Club, KCs, Moose Lodge, Masons....... something that puts service before others.

Not really, everyone here probably knows or has been there. But you end up having two or maybe three friends that’s you talk to every now and then. They are in different places in life via financially, hobbies, people groups, etc.. Sometimes you feel like the best of life has passed by.

Most cultures keep the family unit extremely close their entire lives. If not on a home level/next-door level, at least on a village level.

I have to believe this s a much healthier, happier, and and more mentally stable way to live out your lives instead of the corporate soul-sucking life the Western bloodsuckers have forced us into.

Seeing and interacting with your children, grandchildren and great grandchildren every day or almost every day should be the way we all live out the back end of our lives... But it's not and that's very disappointing.

Leave the desk job behind and learn what it feels like to put in an honest day's work for an actual living wage. I can tell you're a straight shooter, so I'll put in a good word for you at this plant my buddy helps manage. It's in Gramercy, LA, and I think I can get you on as an honest-to-God Plant Operator. You're weclome.
