you're not closing. This isn't how closing works

If I were you I would look for another job. Chances are you have a bad boss and your company prefers him to you
Or
You do not fit the company model
either way not a good scenario for you
Even if the remotest possibility were that you needed to be micromanaged- you still need to move on
Nothing worse than going to work for a boss and a job you hate every day

Micro managers are the worst.
I make an effort in interviews to say more than once I hate micromanagers and have no desire to work under one.
Saves myself and them time in Hiring process.
Old saying I heard that makes sense, ......people don't leave companies they leave people.
It's true.

Micromanagers are the worst. I’d rather have a non-existent boss than the former. The only thing you can do is keep pumping out the results and let your work speak for you.

I wish some douchebag here that sees value in micromaging would chime in and help us all understand.
And no, bc it validates your job and makes you relevant isn't an acceptable answer.

I left a company after one month because of that shite (plus some other shite).
I work from home now and have not been asked about a goal or a report since I started working here.
I’m also on pace to make more $ than I ever have.
Never settle.

My take:
Micro managers are insecure and don’t take blame well. Your strategy:
1). Build boss’s confidence. “Great idea” or “That worked really well last time, good thought” will go a long way.
2). Take the bullet when you should. And sometimes when you shouldn’t. Micros are scared of things going wrong or being blamed. Don’t throw blame on the micro. And T1FTT sometimes.
3). Avoid when stressed. If your micro can’t get you, he can’t manage. If your micro is freaked, avoid em.
That’s all I got. Good luck, Birdseed. Hope you get that foreman pay.

Drop this book on his desk and tell him to give it a read

quote:Heard something similar from the president of Chronos (sp?) in a recent interview. He said employees join a company because of what the company can do FOR them. They leave because of what the company (i.e., its management) does TO them.
people don't leave companies they leave people.
Somewhat related: I work for a telecommunications company which has one manager for each crew of 10-15 workers. Recently a manager transferred out, and his crew was left without a manager for 2 months. That manger-less crew outperformed all the other crews during those 2 months. Once they got a new manager in place, their performance went back down to its normal levels.

Half the time they don’t even realize they’re doing it. They just think that they are just being on top of things. I give them some slack if they’re at least polite about it, but if he is being snobby or an a-hole, frick off.

I’m being fairly serious here, though it sounds ridiculous. If you’re ever getting stressed at your job, especially because of someone else who is so wound up that they think everything and everybody else also needs to be to function, then step back, breathe, and try and take the “cosmic perspective”.
Seriously, go watch an episode of Cosmos on Netflix, try and fail to comprehend the vastness of the universe, and how insignificantly small our little blue planet is on a universal scale.
Just makes you realize none of this shite matters
and not in a suicidal, depressed way. But the stress over what we do day to day in our tiny sector of the “massive planet” which is really just a tiny piece of existence; the stress just isn’t worth it. Enjoy life because those feelings of happiness with friends and family are real, but don’t be let some meaningless report on a piece of paper or a computer screen take away from that enjoyment.

The best way to deal with a micromanager is make it a game and flood him with input. Make his micromanagement work against him. Step up your meetings, questions, comments, interactions, conversations, emails etc

I go to the breakroom to get my lunch and this "I love me some me", passive aggressive motherfricker had at some point this morning taped a "Sales Goals for 2018" sheet to the fridge door. I go back to my desk to eat my lunch, and he comes over and asks me if I closed any accounts today. I said no not yet, and then he proceeds to tell me that the if I'm not selling then I'm not a salesperson. I then responded, " I guess I'm not a salesperson then", and proceeded to finish eating my sandwich. I don't want to quit not having another gig lined up, but I am honestly at the point where I feel I have no other choice seeing as how this is not going to get any better. I mean I can't fathom how someone could be so unaware of how ineffective their management style is. I can understand if I wasn't meeting my quota, but I am exceeding my quota. What a fricking waste. Back to the drawing board with my career.

Had a boss I worked for in a Project Management Role. She got to the point where she asked me to, "sign out," when I left my desk with the time, intended destination, estimated time I'd get back, actual time I got back, reason for delay if I went over.
I steered into the skid on the 2nd day. I took a bathroom break and fully documented why I ran long (#1 turned into #2). After 2 log-ins like that the rest of the week, when we reviewed it at the end of the week at our, "Friday Progress Report," Meeting, the sign out sheet was magically discontinued.
Things really didn't get better though. I left 3 years ago in October. Had spent 7 years there with 5 actual promotions within that span before running into her. Got so bad I promoted out and she talked trash about me to the hiring manager AFTER I transferred out and got my promotion rescinded.
Realized she wouldn't let me leave so I walked away with the better part of a decade's worth of institutional knowledge...earned from the ground up and then supplemented by a system's level understanding of the background processes, etc.
The only regret was trying to promote twice before finally going elsewhere totally. Should've done that long ago. It's been over 3 years and I am dumb for trying to stick it out as long as I did.
It ain't worth it, brah. If you are good enough, your skill set is valuable enough to go find happiness elsewhere. The grass at work can ABSOLUTELY be greener.

Find another job. Is this a hard life decision for you?
Posted on 2/15/18 at 2:54 pm to GFunk
Yeah, things will work out. I'm usually not one to bitch about my job considering the fact that there are individuals out there that are currently struggling to get a job, but I just needed to let off some steam.
