That's awful though. One day I want to trek to Everest just to see it. Seems like you can even fathom how big that sumbitch is unless you're standing beneath it.

It really is hard to fathom how tall something is at 8000 meters.

Went up K2 last week. Lots of corpses on the way. Very sad.

I've seen Everest from a plane. I would love to hike to Base Camp one day.

Yeah it's a really stupid ego trip for many.

I read where a doctor with a family and young kid had gone on the trip because he simply wanted to go....died in an avalanche. Waste.

it’s hard to fathom that base camp there is higher than any point in the lower 48. Krakauer noted that in his book, he was as high as he’d ever been before they even started climbing

There are a few guys attempting a new route this year on Everest. Should make for an interesting follow. Also, the ones that do it without supplemental oxygen are nuts.

I used to want to climb mountains when I was around 11-12. Used to obsess on it.

I lost the hell out of that passion.

Everest is no big deal. Most of y’all are just too poor to do it. I grabbed this sweet vintage ski coat off a dude when I was going up

It sounds like a great experience until you think about what's involved: bundling up to protect against the elements, sun beating down on you with no atmospheric filters, lugging oxygen tanks because there isn't enough air, no place to shower or relieve yourself...I'll pass. Or replicate it on a treadmill with a video screen.
