Couldnt imagine wanting to be on a small boat on a louisiana river at midnight.
I used to run trot lines for catfish in the Tangipahoa. I was in a canoe and would run the lines at about 10 PM and 3 AM. Then I would run them after breakfast at about 10 AM, but that was obviously in daylight. But back then there was not a sign of life on that stretch of the river after dark.

Friend told me a party barge accident around midnight last night on the Tickfaw.

You literally just replied to a post from July.

I think that is exactly what he meant since he posted it on July 28th.

Younger folks have to take a boaters safety course, but there isn’t a license.
The thing with the boater safety, and this really drives me insane as someone who has operated vessels of various sizes on rivers for my entire life, is that almost ZERO of what they teach you and test you on in boater safety is very applicable to real life experience
Knowing what all the different flag symbols mean and navigation symbols is all well and good but the fact is they don't help keep people safe and people aren't going to remember them from a three hour course anyways.
Idk how you go about doing it but people would learn way more from having a qualified person take them out for three hours on a busy Saturday afternoon/morning/whatever on the water in a pontoon and explaining the decisions he made around other traffic as he was making them than anything they get taught at the current boater safety class
A lot of states require you to actually shoot a pistol to gain your concealed carry permit so some sort of proof of performance isn't totally unprecedented in this regard

Who boats at midnight???
I’ve been out most of the night before. But I would never run at any speed. There are trees and logs and mud and a lot of stuff you can’t see. You gotta stay within your lights.

Excellent perspective and advice.

If you search his name on FB there appears to be a new profile of him. One showing him and another pic of his dog which is a Great Dane. In one of the comments it says welcome back so assuming he deleted his old profile. And I think he limits who can comment on his posts too knowing some people have some nasty stuff to say to him. But it looks to me like he is out bc the pic was posted very recently.
