I was out at recess when the first shooting happened and they brought us in saying there were drive by shootings in the area. Didn't have a real recess for month but still played outside after school, ran away from all white vans as a joke.

Theres a conspiracy theory that the white van thing came about because they had no clue what kind of car it was but they knew if they were allowed to pull over every white van they'd at least be able to catch a lot of illegals.

Hell, I remember the sniper down in New Orleans back in the early 1970's that was held up in a hotel. That crazy SOB was going around and lighting fires in different rooms. They had cop snipers shooting a hole in a stairway once they had him trapped. Google Mark Essex.

I remember that I was 5 years old we had just moved here like maybe a month after my dad retired from the USAF.

I dated a chick for a while whose parents lived up there. The husband of a receptionist in her dad's office was one of the victims. Don't remember if he was killed or just injured.

The house I used to live in was next to Wheaton High School in the Wheaton/Silver Spring area, very close to the center of where the first string of murders took place. My roommate's family owns the house, and he told me how tense it was for them. He said it was absolutely certain that the sniper had strolled through his neighborhood at one point. Thought that was crazy.

No, but a funny side note.

We were looking for an exterminator at one point to catch some raccoons. The Animal Control office gave me a list of names. So, I contacted a guy and scheduled him to come out. I decided to google his name to see if he had any reviews or anything like that. Turns out, he was the son of the DC Sniper and testified at his trial. No, I didn't ask him about it.

The older sniper has already been executed.

I'm reading the Wiki now and I didn't realize these guys killed about 12 people coast to coast before the Beltway attacks occurred.

Muhammed and Malvo were also involved in a shooting in Montgomery, AL. I remember being in Montgomery the night before an LSU Auburn football game in October 2002, just a couple of weeks after the Montgomery shootings.

They still have a photo up in the store of the lady who was shot. Kind of morbid when you go in there.

I remember driving through Montgomery that week to go see President Bush at Auburn. We stopped at Zelda Road (where the ABC Store is) and there had to be 50 news trucks parked on the street.

When the sniper killed someone south of DC, everyone started freaking out because they thought he was heading south.

Everyone wondered if it was terrorism-related or not.

You're right. It was a Columbus Day and like a regular busy weekend. Absolutely crazy. Plus the bottom level of that HD is enclosed, not like a typical wide open parking lot.

If I recall correctly, they were actually sniping out of the trunk of their car. Everyone was talking about the white van, but I think I recall that the older dude had tricked out the trunk of the car. He would put the younger guy in there, back up, and that was how they stayed so under the radar.

Not positive about that, but I thought I recalled them interviewing the younger one and him explaining the entire process. Talk about make your blood run cold.

In Montgomery they thought they were going to get a bag of money when the women came out after closing the Liquor Store.

All deposits are made during the shift and when the employees close the store all they carry out is their purse or wallet.

So,they shot them,killing one,I believe,for basically nothing.

eta:You're correct about the car.Not sure if the back seat was taken out but it was done where they could lay down and shoot out of the hole in the trunk.Sick frickers.

Your memory is good. It was a white Chevrolet Caprice and they removed the back seat and cut a hole near the back taillight that they shot through. Pretty genius really, you shoot from the car, wait a minute until everyone starts hauling arse and then just mix in with the traffic.

On a side note, my buddy was a federal agent at the time and was sent up there on the investigation. The FBI wanted to be the ones to catch the bad guys for the PR (that's the way the FBI rolls) and they were handling the interview assignments. He told me they would come into the Command Center every day and be given a stack of tips to go out and interview people. BUT, the FBI wouldn't tell them how the tip came in, who made it or any other info. Wanting to keep that to themselves. He said they kept raising hell because it was a bitch going to knock on a door not knowing if it was yet another crazy person/pissed off neighbor/ex-wife type tip (apparently there were thousands of people willing to knowingly falsely accuse people just to cause them trouble). He would ask every time "Is this the guy?" and they would just shrug and send him to do the interview. Messed up.

That's what I remember too. Everyone was on alert for the white van and it was like an 88 buick lesabre or something similar with a hole in the trunk.
