She did replace the battery in the key, right? IT f not try that
Probably an Amazon key, cheap but they don’t last at all.
I would call the mobile locksmith you used and give them hell for using crap parts

Would have gladly paid more for and OEM key for sure. Oh well, as Pat Dye said, "hindsight is 50/50".

If she is hot and willing to take the ferry to Bainbridge Island, I will solve this problem. If she spends a lot of time in the Capitol Hill area of Seattle visiting anarchic bookstores and talking about smashing the patriachy, I can't be of service.

Any decent mobile locksmith should be able to make her another key and reprogram the PATS.
If it’s push to start, you really need two keys, but it can be gotten around. Dealer will make you buy two.
Also if it’s push to start, have her find out where you put the fob when its battery dies. The car will read it there and she may have better luck at least getting it to start if it’s a cheap china fob.

I had this recently happen.
If it is a key fob, and not insertable, then likely there is a place you can place the key fob and the car start. In my explorer, it is in the center console. On my wife's BMW, it's on the steering column.
Also, this was a fix on my Mustang. The car would turn over (insertable key/electronic fob) but not start. Tried the fuel pump reset in the trunk and that didn't work. I went to a Mustang forum and a poster recommended that I turn the car on, but not try to start it, and then walk away for 15 minutes. He suggested that the handshake between the key and the car needed to be re-established and that the car would seek out the key fob with a series of codes until it matches the code for the key and they handshake and sync. It worked.

Is this one with that “My Key” tech bullshite?
If it is, the one that was lost was likely a master key or something. My dad had this problem. He washed his master key and was using the secondary. That was until the mechanic doing the oil change accidentally switched on his my key security which limits a cars functionality and governs speed.
