I would have to agree. More strict traffic rules are needed. In exchange, we allow them to haul more weight with an extra axle so fewer trucks are needed.

I drive that stretch of I-75 on a regular basis. It’s incredibly dangerous. For whatever reason, traffic absolutely halls arse from Ocala to the Georgia line.

For whatever reason, there are always those sections of interstate where people routinely go incredibly fast, like 15-20 over the limit on average.

On my daily commute, there is a section of 60mph speed limit interstate where drivers routinely go 80. Incredibly dangerous.

I know some of the people in the van. That was really hard to watch.

SON OF A BITCH!!!

I hope the impact killed them and not the fire.

So was the truck driver texting, drunk or on meth?

I had forgotten about this accident.

The whole made me cry before and now.

Article said he had a medical emergency.

I didnt see anyone in them, which is strange with that many people

I can’t say for sure. But when I saw the slow motion on the video, I thought I saw at least one person flying through the air. I couldn’t tell for sure though. In my opinion, out of respect to the families involved, this video shouldn’t be published.

I also think they should be restricted to the farthest right lane with the only exception being getting over one lane to allow traffic to merge or if they are approaching an exit off the left lane.

It is amazing how fragile life can be. Such a tragedy.

Shows just how quickly it can all be over. One second you’re riding in a van on the way to Disney World and the next second it’s all over.

Unfortunately there is speculation some from the van did not die from the initial impact. Not from fire but other vehicles.

If I recall correctly, both truck drivers were killed. And I thought at the time following the accident the cause was reported as the truck being cut off. Guess that was proven false.

As other have said, I 75 in FL is awful. This accident and the massive pile up in Paynes Prairie a few years ago come to mind. It’s been over a decade but I still have thoughts of a UF student being killed from being hit after exiting her vehicle following a minor fender bender. Just too many people driving too fast on this road.

Looks to me like the truck went off of the right side of the road, over corrected, then went out of control.

I can't believe one of the comments was complaining about a church van full of kid in the left lane, and somehow taking the blame away from the truck driver. Gee whiz, people.

You can definitely see one that looks like they're doing a cartwheel into the trees. I think that orange/red is the sweatshirt of a second person.

The following might have already been posted, but The "NTSB says 3 victims thrown from van were seatbelted."

That is from the story at the following link:

That’s the narrative the trucking company is putting out to try to minimize damages awarded in the lawsuit.

The families of the victims dispute that claim.

The reality is that the reason the truck veered off the road and into oncoming traffic is unknown, at least that’s what I took from the article.

Seatbelts are great and save lives. But when you’ve got 80,000 lbs hitting you at 60-70 MPH, nothing can save you.

Not saying that wasn't someone flying in the air, but they do have luggage.

I think the orange projectile was a bag.
