If you walk by a beggar and ignore him then get shot in the back by that beggar for not giving him cash are you partially at fault? You could've been nicer and bent over backwards to do what the guy wants.

Legally speaking, yes. I've never said anything less.

That doesn't change the fact that the kid could have handled it differently. But you're going to be just as stubborn as me, thinking you're just as right as me, so how's about we just stop now?

What an absolutely horrid comparison to what happened here.

did he even have any weed on him on when they stopped him? I know the cop claimed he "smelled" pot but everyone knows that's oftentimes a bullshite claim they use. I know the story recounted how he had been busted with some pot in his pocket on an earlier date but I didn't see in the story where they found any pot on him during the stop where they just about killed him.

Addressed by the cop-dad, sort of. Said when he read the reprt, he could see all the bullshite in it, because that's what they're trained to do. Work backwards to get probably cause. First says a warrant, then adds "smelled marijuana" because there is no way to prove or disprove he smelled pot.

Also talks about how afterwards, cops would still follow his around, wave at him, hang out in front of his friends houses and shite.

I'm a cop defender more often than not. This one is a not.

I think we should all be thankful that people like this kid exist.

Because, we already KNOW in this case that the police department saw this footage and didn't even deem it worth firing the guy and the ONLY think they thought was wrong was the length of the taser blast.

Absent people like this kid, cops like this would never be outed until they actually killed someone and they most certainly would grow more and more brazen.

Hell, if the department didn't even see much wrong with it, then it's pretty reasonable to assume that other officers in their department behave similarly TODAY!

How so? You could at least try to defend your position.

Well I'm glad he could get brain damaged for you. I won't ever make that sacrifice for you, and I have no problem saying it.

It's not worth defending, your comparison is absurd.

Without people willing to stand up to tyranny, the odds of tyranny affecting you are greatly increased whether you want them to or not.

Yeah. The kid almost certainly could've avoided the damage done to him.

This is an accurate statement for virtually every person in the history of the world who was harmed confronting tyranny.

And fricking THANK GOD they existed because if they didn't, we'd all be worse off.

This sounded more like a personal vendetta than tyranny. I don't think his brain damage was worth it. I wonder how his dad feels.

A policeman should be prepared for a teenager to be a little jerk, if you have lived on the planet for more than 30 minutes you should know that teens are sometimes like that.

No one was in jeopardy, yet someone ended up tazed, the altercation was not needed and initiated by the cop. The result is on him.

The founders of the US could have avoided a war and just remained British. Think of how many lives could have been saved if they had just done what they were told.

This cop was out to get this kid.

Both comparisons are of a person acting reasonably and legally and being hurt by another person because of it. What makes the comparison absurd? Is someone at fault if they don't do everything a cop says but not at fault if they don't do what a homeless person says?

Because there's a lot more to this situation than a random act of violence.

I think if you read my full post, you'd see that this is exactly the point I was making.

Cause sure, he could've avoided it.

Slaves could have avoided a lot of the whippings they got.

Bottom line, I think that after several pages, the crux of Lunchbox's position is that he's only too happy to be a boot licker.

Nothing wrong with that really. There are cowards in every society. In fact, most people are probably cowards.

He could probably save a lot of posting if he just said, "I think more people should be boot lickers like me.....it would keep them safer"

Picking when to fight them does not make me a bootlicker.

Picking the right venue for the fight makes me a coward? Seems like it just makes me intelligent.

Using the term bootlicker just makes you look like a fool.

You're right, it wasn't random. The kid was targeted which means he's even less responsible than in the beggar example. It doesn't matter if the kid did everything the cop wanted, he was probably tased either way.

I can't comprehend this line of thinking. Either the kid was right, or he was wrong. The actions of the officer and the damage to the kid have no bearing on whether or not he was right or whether it was worth it. Getting the shite beat out of you for following the law is not a reasonably possible consequence. Conceding civil rights on the off chance that you're assaulted by a cop is not something we should ever have to do.
