The one we competed in last weekend, in addition to ribbons and pins given out for each dance, gave plaques to the top 10 entries in each age/type category. No category had more than 10 entries... the largest had 8

There was a boy last couple years on the dance competition team.

He played almost every sport (and was good at them) and could dance his arse off. He was the best (or top 5) dancer on that team. The kid had moves.

He gave up dance this year to concentrate on football.

Ahh, probably trying to gin up numbers. There is a crap ton of money in those things, I suspect.

Why not just do rec dance? All this travel dancing is a waste of money. None of them are going to be professional dancers.

I have many friends with daughters on these competitive cheer teams. Many of them are on different teams with different companies from all over Louisiana. Every one of them is a national champion every wknd at every competition they go to. Everyone gets a trophy when you stroke the check.

A chick I work with (no pics) has two daughters, one in middle school, one in HS, who have been doing this since they were tiny. She told me she puts about 30K miles on her vehicle annually, most of it going to dance competitions. They go somewhere nearly every weekend.

Yea, that's setting the bar pretty low. The line between amateur and professional is simply being asked to come back and get up on stage again.

Dance moms are looney, and this comes from the father of a travel baseball player.

I have never seen a baseball mom or dad even come close to a dance mom. And a dance dad is the most defeated man on the planet

Dancers have their own form of travel ball, called competition teams that go around every weekend. And instead of one uniform they have three or four costumes, plus hair, makeup, etc. etc.
