Yeah the length is a killer . I’d so much prefer one hour segments . Pretty amazing though that so many people are tuned into a history podcast. That in itself is a huge cultural victory.

They are just too long for me. I don't have that kind of time in my day to listen to that long of a podcast. I already have to break up the 1.5-2 hour ones I listen to into two segments. Wish I did though

Road trips are amazing. My parents live about an hour away. Pop one of his podcast on and ride. I really enjoyed his WW2 Eastern front series. So much information I didn't think about or realize.

Went on a slight road trip with my Dad over Thanksgiving. Introduced him to Wrath of the Khans. He's now addicted to it and wouldn't shut up about it with my Mom when we got back.

I don't know man. I wrapped up "Blueprint for Armageddon" yesterday, and the length is great if you're in a car a lot. I never really considered if the First World War was more influential than the Second (aside from WWI making II a certainty), but after finishing it, there is no question it was more influential.
I never realized how much Germany had to do with Lenin, so if he doesn't get back to Russia during that time then Communism likely doesn't rise and the USSR could have possibly turned into the second United States. Instead communism spreads to other countries, especially China which also could have been a great Republic instead of tens of millions of deaths.
And then you think about the political ramifications of the French and the British beating the Ottomans and arming tribes with weaponry. While the Ottoman Empire was a disaster at the time, think about how different it would have been if they lasted another 10 years and found the oil. The Ottomans as they were then wouldn't have put up with that terrorist shite.
And then it also broke Britain as the world financial center in favor of America who financed the war. America was also an isolationist country, and that ended with WWI. Japan launched its invasion of Korea and China during WWI due to the circumstances.
And save for the deaths, where did WWII lead to when you really think about it? Nazism and Fascism are practically dead as concepts these days. And if your retort is dictators, then I’d argue most of them took influence from Stalin, not Hitler and Mussolini. The nuclear bomb was inevitable. Israel and Japan cooling its shite are probably the most major contribution to current world politics that WWII independently produced. All it did was lead to escalation of concepts that started during WWI and not II.
Gavrilo Princip fricked over the world the day he killed Franz Ferdinand and his wife. Aside from nuclear holocaust, it's hard to imagine many alternative histories that would have been worse if Gavrilo Princip did not step out of that cafe 5 feet from his target he missed an hour before.

I like Dan Carlin besides him pushing the narrative that trump is anti-black, anti-gay, anti-women, etc during the election. It's unfounded and 90 percent of what he said about trump during the election was in regards to that nonsense.

Depends on when they’d win the war. If it was in 1914 when they had the chance to run Paris: Yes. But in 1918? No. There’s no reason to think that the same country that has Napoleon couldn’t also have a Hitler if Germany did the same shite that the French did to them in the aftermath of that war.

Common Sense is great bc he's a real independent and offers great perspective on current events. He's way smarter than the usual talking heads.

Listen whenever you can. You don't have to sit on the couch and stare at the wall while you listen from start to finish

I play a good amount of video games without the sound (FIFA mostly) and I’ll listen to them in the background.
I saw HH mentioned here and tried it out and Carlin is an amazing storyteller.
