The only really bad area is south of I30.
The area north of love field and the areas hugging 635 from just east of the high 5 down to mesquite are not the best.
All of these areas are easy to avoid and there really isn't spillover into nicer areas.
You could say this about any decent to large sized city including all major cities in Louisiana.
