I will help an animal cross the street, but I am EXTREMELY careful when I do it.

frick seagulls. If you ever parked at UNO in the 90s, you know what I'm talking about.

I had a friend of a friend drown in Myrtle Beach trying to save a family from drowning in a riptide. His 3 kids and wife watched him drown from the beach where he had been throwing the baseball 30 mins earlier.
I wouldn’t wish that upon anyone nor do I think I will ever leave my family to help someone else in a similar situation. It was literally one of the most depressing things I’ve ever seen watching his family go through this so I feel horribly for his wife and kids and what a dumb thing to lay down your life for.

Luckily for me, one of my buddies saw me go for the ball and kept his eyes on me the whole time. Once he realized what was happening
So the girls just moved on and didn’t care if you or their ball was lost to the sea?

2 guys I went to school with watched their dad drown in Destin saving their babysitter. He managed to get the babysitter to someone on a raft but ran out of gas and drowned before anyone could get to him.

Just gotta ask: why didn't he simply reel it in?
Tragic ending that doesn't seem worthy of ridicule.
So RIP to a guy following his conscience.

That doesn’t make sense. He could have hung on the raft too when he got her to it. Unless he tried to swim back in solo.

I'm sure I look like a goober, but I carry one of the lifeguard floats to the beach. If I have to go rescue one of my kids I want a line to the shore and a flotation device. If it's a stranger drowning, then I am happy to let someone use it to rescue them, don't think I'll be the one getting in the water.

You should always find something that floats if you go out to save someone. That’s why the lifeguards have those red bouys tied to them when they go out. Or a surfboard they paddle out on.
On a regular beach crowd day, something has to be close. People bring blow up rafts, boogie boards, etc.

I wouldn’t think you were a goober at all. A man has to be prepared to protect his family. Much respect to you for being so well prepared.

Have you been to Spring Break as a drunk 20 year old? It is chaos. No clue if they were paying attention or not as I was busy out there but I do know my buddy saved my arse. That event seems like a lifetime ago but I can remember realizing I was in trouble as clearly as if it happened yesterday. It was one of those moments where you think back and realize it was a coin toss if I lived or was a news story on the OT.

I want to see the OT’s protect your family travel pack. I imagine it weighs 600lb and requires the bed of a full size pickup.
