I had my fair share of tee shots that shot off sideways or to the back of me. I guess I'm having a hard time believing a shot like that could have enough force behind it to kill. But it's a 6 year old girl.

IMHO, I'd say she was slightly in front of him and it was a screamer off the edge of the club.

Where does it say that in the article?

It's not in this article. I read it on another news site.

Jesus, I couldn’t imagine making jokes or posting lol emojis in a thread about a 6 year old girl dying. Some of you are pure trash.

Yep. If the cart is at 91 degrees azimuth or 269 which ever side you want. This doesnt happen.

I mean, mathematically you're wrong. I've seen shanks at those angles. Does it reduce the chance? Sure. But shite happens sometimes.

Everyone shanks one every now and then.

At PGA tournaments you have people standing just a few feet from where the pros are teeing off with the ball flying right in front of their noses. I’ve stood there before a couple of times and every time I think about how stupid and reckless it is. I know these guys basically never miss bad enough off the tee for it to hit some one around the tee box but man if they did...

As good as these guys are, they aren’t robots. A slip or a loud noise or something and they could send a 180 mph ball right through someone’s face. I don’t stand there anymore.

Did you see me posing lol emojis about the incident? I was laughing at this redneck who said he would wrap a 9 iron around my neck. If anything, I probably come across as too serious about the line of fire thing because I take safety up a notch. And the incident was terrible, and I can relate because I have a 5 year old daughter. Context, my man. Context.

I’ve seen a guy shank a driver into another guy at the driving range once.

A guy (right handed) was there minding his own business hitting balls. A beginner (lefty) shows up and starts shanking balls everywhere next to him. You can see a little bit of concern on the righty, but he continues on. The lefty then shanks one off a tee with a driver directly sideways and strikes the guy in the chest.

Other than scare the guy, luckily it didn’t cause any damage. Prob just grazed him and didn’t have enough power. There were some pretty heated words exchanged tho.

But according to the article, the cart was parked somewhere between the man's 9 o'clock and even with him. So probably at his 8 or 7.

If you are teeing off 9 o'clock is down fairway. It sounds more like she was BETWEEN 10:30 and 12 o'clock. It says "from his left shoulder" which means left shoulder is at 0 degrees or 9 o'clock.

It says she was BETWEEN 45 and 90. Not at 45. 0 being down fairway is how I understood it. This happens all the time when I am playing golf and I could easily see someone making this mistake.

I don't understand this hill you are deciding to climb judging this guy. It is a horrible accident.

You're right. I screwed that up. Still, you get the point.

The incident of hitting somebody with a shank shouldn't "happen all the time", because shanks do "happen all the time". You should never park the cart in front of somebody teeing off. You just don't. Especially a little girl.

Never hit a golf ball with anyone in range of being hit.

What I am saying happens all the time, is when two or three carts are together, the first cart is easily at 60 to 80 degree area. I could easily see three carts if kids were present. The first cart usually pulls up slightly further so the back carts are more even with tee markers.

At least that is how every group I play in does it.

I am efficient. For purposes of this discussion I only needed 180 degrees.
