I watched this fantastic video doc series of DDay hour by hour last year on YT. It’s time consuming, but you’ll learn everything you could ever want to learn about June 6.

The Greatest Generation

How does anyone down vote this statement? Do some research, if WWII was today with this generation of 16-24 year olds we'd be goose stepping already.

Got a chance to visit Normandy last month. Extremely moving experience and highly recommend anyone to visit if given the opportunity.

I was wondering if you know the source of the photo of Joe Nagata in uniform? Was it originally with the article posted by LSU? I am working on a documentary and we are interested in trying to use the photo but need source info to get permission. Thank you!

Thank you!! That dude should have had a movie about him a long time ago.

I was coming to ask the exact same question. My pop has his 80th birthday in August so we’re planning to do something special for him so it’s fresh on my mind.

Great-grandpa. Bronze star medal, purple heart. 78th infantry divison 310th infantry regiment. He was wounded in one of those battles leading up to the bulge. He was in cannon company. Which was a crew of men who fired 105mm howitzers at the Germans, supporting the riflemen. He was wounded from shrapnel probably from counter-battery from the Germans. And could never walk again. He wasn't drafted either, he volunteered sometime after 1941. Not bad for a poor farmboy from southern KY.

My great-uncle was also at the Bulge. He carried a flamethrower. He had PTSD bad. He'd wake up screaming at night. He had chased some germans into a cave with the flamethrower. He saw something move out of the corner of his eye, and turned and shot a burst of flames. Turns out that was a family hiding from the battle.
