I was in 2nd Brigade, 2-502nd Infantry in the 101st Airborne. Of course I'm biased so I'll say Airborne. I was also in the 101st when the Army deactivated our Airborne status in 2013 and we no longer conducted jump training. 101st is fully Air Assault now.

One of my grandfathers was a fighter pilot in the Pacific and the other was a naval officer in Europe so I doubt I would have been with the invasion force.

If it was the 2nd or 3rd wave of the beach storming than I’d storm the beach but otherwise it would be airborne.

That 1st wave of soldiers that stormed Utah and Omaha beaches had balls of steel.

Stupid take is stupid. This generation still has thousand upon thousands voluntarily signing up to go potentially die in completely useless wars in the middle east

If Scruffy had been referencing the actual Marines, he would have capitalized the “M”.

It was in reference to the fact that it was an actual marine assault using vehicles that float on water called boats.

Grandfather joined airborne because they offered more pay a month. He told me it was just a few dollars more.

Survived D-Day but later stepped on a landline in France.

Lost an arm but returned to the army as a drill sergeant.

Depends. The first wave of troops that landed were mowed down att a significant rate. The ones that made it through cleared a path for the rest and then chance of survival was very high.

Paratroopers were sitting ducks as they descended.

1. Google the shite the Japanese did in China.
2. If Japan had won the war who knows what they would look like today.

Which wave? being the first on the beach makes for a much higher chance of being shot

All WWII paratroopers were volunteers (at least to be paratroopers).

Shows what I know. I thought they'd been fully air assault for decades.

Not thinking it through, my first instinct was air. I guess now looking at the stats, seaborne.

I sure hope so. Getting some people out of a plane who dont want to jump could be a huge quandary. I There would probably be permanent damage to the inside of the plane.

Glider pilots had balls of steel, or lots of booze before they flew.
