Would you ride it?

quote:

Displacing a state-run monopoly on anything, much less public transportation, is disruptive enough. But Novotný's Leo Express is disruptive in the technological, connectivity sense as well. "The next generation has the Uber/Airbnb/Zipcar P2P sharing economy and Leo Express. Soon, they can take an Uber, Zipcar, one of our Leo Express buses/shuttles or the bicycle path to our trains and go from the other end in the same way. It's quick, cost-efficient, much safer and carbon-neutral," Novotný stated confidently.

The new-age train company's 'frequent rider' loyalty program, S:)mile Club offers a wide assortment of discounts for members not only on the Leo Express trains and buses but also with retail partners. There are discounts and promotions for hotels. restaurants, bookstores, cafes, furniture/accessories stores, museums and even attractions like the "Invisible Exhibition" where "all light disappears" and you try "to find your way out" with a blind guide.

Unlike many start-ups I see, Leo Express was prepared when they originally launched with an iOS and Android app up and running. The train travel company currently offers a discount in partnership with Uber on their webpage and in their mobile app and is quite naturally trying to deepen their partnerships with Uber. "We're investing a lot into our e-commerce technologies," he said, "and Uber is a major partner in our future." It's clear to me how each will be 'feeders' for the other's passengers--a perfect reciprocity.
Leo Express, the Uber of trains

So long story short. 30 year old entrepeneur gets the $$$ together and launches a train service in the Czech Republic. He runs it for half the cost of the government monopoly and with a much better experience and now he wants to bring it to the USA. He also lets women drive.

The biggest problems will be dealing with the railroads. After a year on a high speed rail construction job that runs partly on existing railroad tracks, dealing with them is a motherfricker. Lots of money spent and headaches when you to do it.

I'm sure the train lobby will not give him a hard time whatsoever.

That's part of the cost cutting. You know, glass ceilings and all.

If they can do it in the Czech Republic, a private company can do it here. LINK

Whats not to like about it? They run their trains for half the price of the state run companies. A one-way trip costs ~$13 for economy and they have business and first class so we don't have to be around the trash. I said in the pt board thread, if these guys want to take over Amtrak then Obama, Trump, Rubio, Clinton, or whomever the next POTUS is should send Airforce One over there to pick them up and fly them over.
