My favorite knife is a 12 inch carbon steel "french" made by Chicago Cutlery somewhere between 1890 and 1920 based on the mark. I bought it in a $45 lot about 20 years ago on Ebay. Got a chipped scimitar and a slicer too (both carbon steel).
I love that blade, but the handle is getting more wonky than right. About to put an olive wood on it. I'm just scared to take a chisel to it.

Good knives. Sales people are ruthless. Don’t invite them over for the free sharpening program- it’s just a gimmick to sell you more knives.

I now live close to a store front so getting them sharpened will be easy.

Best knives Ive ever used. Lifetime warranty.

No, Cutco is definitely not worth the price. Easiest way to differentiate Cutco vs the elite knives is stamped vs forged and the type of steel used.
Go for Zwilling, Wusthof, Miyabi or Shun. All elite level knives that are for real chefs. Of course there are smaller, less known brands but the above are fairly ubiquitous.
The Cutco warranty is silly. You should be sharpening your knife every month in a 5 minute process, not waiting years to send it off to be sharpened.

This is one of the few MLMs that produces a solid product, which is why they're still in business.
But the knives are more expensive than you have to pay for the quality.
However, I've heard their warranty and sharpening is legit, so it may be worth it.

Expensive as hell.
Then don’t buy them.
There’s a reason commercial chefs use Mercer, Dexter, and Victorinox

My set is almost 40 years old. I bought a set when I sold them. They are still great knives.

20 years ago my brother's best friend went down this hole and everybody in my family had to buy a set of knives. But we all still have them today and they work great so I'm not complaining.
Well... sounds like a positive situation.

Much better than Temu or Monat
*ETA: I meant Limu instead of Temu, but apparently Temu is also a MLM

I mean they ain’t Japanese steel, but they are overall a good value and pretty high quality.
Granted, they are sentimental in our family. My dad sold them during med school and there is some connection on the in-laws side as well.
That being said, I have probably 30-40 cutco knives… 2 big blocks full, a dozen steak knives, and overflow in a drawer. I’ve sent them in at least twice and they were reconditioned to like new or replaced, even if I melted a handle or anything.
Oh, and their kitchen shears are unrivaled.

I know the reputation is there. But they feel so cheap. I have a Benchmade Meatcrafter and it’s an awesome tool. Need to send it off for sharpening. I want the Station knife. I’ve used one and it’s badass. And they don’t feel cheap.

Id imagine that's a big deal. Because theres been a lot of hungry college kids repping them trying to make bank. I used to think they were a ripoff but as you see the disposable nature of today's chinese crap you appreciate things that last. Like our grandparents once made.
Pretty damn good knives but I bought mine 2 decades ago. Hopefully they maintained their quality standards.

I have a large sedated type knife and a sandwich knife.
They are awesome.
They are awesome.

I bought some 30 years ago. They are still my favorite. I use them everyday. Would buy again.

Cutco knives are very good quality and their price is a reflection of that. I don't think you can find a comparable quality knife for much cheaper. But honestly, most people don't need a $2k knife set. However, if you are into having quality cutlery they are worth every penny and they will last a lifetime. Just don't do like my exwife and kids and leave one in the king cake box because they are expensive to replace.
Eta: my younger brother sold them in college so that's how I ended up with a set. 20 years later I've had them resharpened a few times and they are still like new. And the scissors are great too

How much do these knives cost. I love a good knife.
My Old Hickory carbon steel knives cut stuff just fine. I have some Dexter Russel knives and they work well also.
