Police say 53-year-old Joel McClain Carson entered the Circle K near 19th Avenue and Grant Street on May 9, 2018. In surveillance video, he can be seen deliberately walking up to a customer waiting in line and shooting him in the back of the head.
The victim was 24-year-old Efran Hernandez, who was a father of two. He died at the scene before paramedics could get him to a hospital.
Carson reportedly tried to shoot several other customers and employees in the store, but his .22-caliber handgun malfunctioned. Investigators say Carson had recently stolen the gun.
Detectives wrote that the revolver misfired eight times and every single bullet "had been struck with the firing pin, however, the bullets did not go off due to the cylinder being out of alignment."
The misfiring almost certainly saved lives, as Carson can be seen desperately pulling at the trigger when he was rushed by the hostages, taken to the ground and disarmed.

Once they took the weapon, all the hostages ran outside, except for one employee who was in the back office and remained quiet the entire time to prevent being found.
Carson stayed in the store for almost an hour while police negotiated with him. A SWAT team eventually entered the store, shooting Carson and injuring him.

Not a suspect, but the actual murderer.

There's gotta be a better improvised weapon in that store than an empty milk crate.

This guy was casually walking around the store after he shot someone?

How the frick do you get held hostage by someone carrying a .22?
Yes, it sucks to get shot, but a .22 has severe penetration issues and it is hard to ensure you hit something you want unless you are right up next to them.

You mean just like this fella walked up to someone minding their own business and shot him point blank.

They call the .22 a brain surgeon's nightmare for a reason

could have gone very badly for the first baw. others took way too long to jump in and help him out.
and a plastic milk basket? even a glass bottled 64oz would have been more effective

Because most gas station customers probably got a really good look at the weapon and are all most likely gun enthusiasts who would be likely to know the caliber of a gun being wielded by a mad man shooting up a store

They’re in a convince store. He’s like 10 feet away from everyone. But I’m sure you would have been in there dodging rounds like Neo.

I gotta admit - - I love justice porn. The only thing that would have made this video better is if one of the customers had a CWP and blew that FAT FOOK all over the reach in cooler.
