FWIW, I have done the same thing in crossfit

tempo lifts, pullups, pushups, etc are pretty common

My point was about the spastic looking ones in the video.

and my point was that isn't the only type of pullups that people do in crossfit

CrossFit used to be kipping or nothing back in the day which is asinine, but over time they've incorporated stuff that they initially didn't.

This is what the scale is and should be

Ring Muscle up
Bar Muscle up
Chest to bar Pull-Ups
Kipping Pull Up
Strict Pull Up
Ring Rows

I'll agree, although I think jumping negatives should be between ring rows and kipping pull ups

negatives are super helpful

Progression at my gym is strict before kipping. At least 2-3 strict first, too.

That is simply the fastest way to touch your chest to the bar multiple times. That is the point. 90% of crossfit people dont do butterfly CTB, most regular people cant do chest to bar pull ups. But they are trying to stay active, I appreciate that.

That movement is the opposite of spastic, it takes a great deal of coordination, shoulder stability, core strength, grip strength(maybe not in his case), not to mention the major movers

I couldn't stop watching that video.

Where those fake weights? They way they were shifting their grip and then holding their bodies in weird angles just doesn't seem right for the weight they were supposedly lifting. Also, what kind of barbell was that?

Back on shifting their grip . . . Why were they using a mixed grip (dead lift grip) for what was some kind of horribly form clean and jerk?

The worst part is all the "great, get it there, nice! Now jerk it. Perfect!" in the background.

That's the shite that gives you CF baws a bad name.

I would switch kipping and strict.

Kipping just puts too much jerking force on the shoulders. If you don't have the strength to even do a strict pullup it has the potential to tear up your shoulders.

This actually comes straight out of the mouth of the American men's gymnastics coach, who Glassman got much of his gymnastics ideas from.

Of course it is. I bet it's a "gym" started by someone with no clue what they're doing but they read up on stuff. It's probably cheap so more idiots join and get taught by people who don't know proper form.

The cycle continues until there's maybe 50-100 members who all think they're doing it right so they cheer each other on.

I used to be a hater but my opinion has changed alot. I don't go to a CF gym but most people would benefit from the workouts.

I do think there can be too much of a focus on technical and complicated Olympic lifts when most people would be just fine focusing on doing overhead press, squat, dead, bench correctly and sticking with that along with basic accessory and mobility exercises. But if it gets people to workout why not.

Also it is partially a branding thing, doing the CF WOD at a CF gym 4 times/week won't get you anywhere near being a CF games athlete and/or in that type of shape!
