You have proven that this is completely false in this thread.

I’d rather go play a real sport, stay in shape and not have to worry about getting injured

I play other sports too. I play basketball weekly. My last 2 injuries were while playing basketball too.

I've actually never been injured doing crossfit.

throwing kettle balls over my head.

Never done this.

Maybe if your definition of "old fashioned" is ignorant.

All the coaches I know all have master degrees in kenisology and some have been strength coaches at a few colleges.

You know the average Joe is more likely to get seriously injured playing a "real sport" than doing CrossFit right?

The couch athletes who get up and try to play a pick up game of basketball, or play intramural softball and whatnot without regularly training are FAR more likely to blow out a knee.

As a naturally competitive person who has played sports throughout my life, I too would rather stay active through different sports, but the reality is as you get older it's much harder to get people together to play sports regularly. CrossFit is competitive, gets you in damn good shape, and you can do it everyday if you want.

Trying to play this game of either/or is stupid. You can do both. Most of the best Crossfitters are former athletes. It's just a way to stay in shape and be competitive.

CrossFit haters have become just as bad as the CrossFit fire breathers. Equally obnoxious. Just do what you enjoy and shutup about it.

So you keep commenting about something that you literally have no knowledge about? Very odd.

That's not odd in any way. People comment about topics they are ignorant about all the time. Just go to your Facebook news feed I can almost guarantee you that you will be able to find multiple examples within the first 10 or so post.

This is what most people have a problem with when it comes to CrossFit. They travel around in douche packs with their man buns and never shut up about snatches, WODs, and macros.

I’ll admit that I’ve actually been to a major competition in Nashville to watch a friend and was pleasantly surprised that they served beer there. They did kipping pull-ups and pedaled assault bikes while I pounded beer and people watched.

They kinda want these things to happen. My CrossFit "friends" on FB favorite thing is to show off their injuries they acquired from unsafe retarded workout practices. Badge of honor for them. I'm a really fricked up cult ure
I may be old but leaving the gym with injuries makes me think they are doing it wrong.

This isn't a sport. It's a workout. It's one hour.

the risk/reward is terrible.

How's that?

I have terrible shoulders and am 51. Swings do not bother me one tiny bit.

You are ignorant beyond belief.

What I don’t get about the OTs obsession with hating on CrossFit is that they also hate fatasses....

Instead of applauding people for doing something....

Kettle bell swings actually engage the core, gluets, and hip flexors when done correctly.

And I agree, those people are aggravating. But that's not exclusive to CrossFit, hardcore runners, bikers, weightlifters, etc are usually just as obnoxious.

My point is it's become a thing to hate on CrossFit, and now it's to the point that the haters are just as obnoxious as the hardcore Crossfitters.

I've been to CrossFit gyms where they bring beer for after the workouts. Most Crossfitters aren't these hardcore health nuts that you stereotypically hear about.

And as far as kipping pullups go, that's something they pulled from gymnastics. It's a gymnastic move.

The problem is CrossFit usually teaches the kipping pullup before the strict pullup, which is backwards IMO. You should be able to do a few strict pullups before kipping for shoulder health.

They're starting to come around though. CrossFit used to be kipping or nothing back in the day which is asinine, but over time they've incorporated stuff that they initially didn't.

define a pull up

My trainer has me do the exact opposite of that. He calls them 8 second pullups.

Hang for 2 seconds, take 2 seconds to slowly pull up, hold at bar for 2 seconds and slowly lower back to hanging within 2 seconds.

When I started that I could do 22-25 regular pullups. After doing the 8 seconds ones for about 4-5 weeks, I can do 45-50 regular now. I am so much stronger and have better endurance.

But no biggie, you do yours and Ill do mine.

tempo lifts, pullups, pushups, etc are pretty common
