I didn't read, but best thing I've ever done in my life was get out of Baton Rouge and more importantly, Louisiana. The whole state is a corrupt shite hole.

Springfield, IL is up there, IME.

OP, good effort, but most will criticize your post, or at the very least be critical and criticize your spelling of "critisize".

this exactly

I think this is a good question to determine if a town is "nice" or "good": why is this city a good place, for people with no prior connection (they are from there, parents moved there, etc.), to live?

Very true. Not sure why it gets all this hate.

I've been living here for 6+ years and I love it.

People just like to whine and complain.

I agree with this post. Growing up for 25+ years and moving away from BR has made me realize how negative and poisonous the majority of people are that live in that city....that includes all of my family members who still live there. This board follows that same trend. I don't know if it's the demographics, racial divides, the poor education system, the economy, shitty infrastructure or weather (e.g. hurricanes and floods) but a lot of people just don't know how to enjoy life. Everyone pisses and moans about all the problems but don't care to do anything about them.

Yikes...this turned into a criticism...and proves everyone's point

BR has a great park system.
The main library is awesome.
The LSU sports scene is typically really good across the board.
There are really good local restaurants, but they are spread all around the city.
Downtown is making a comeback.

I'd like to see Government or even Florida turned into a main drag.

One of the biggest problems, aside from the obvious traffic and crime, is the urban decay caused by urban sprawl. So much wasted space in the core part of the city.

I don't call it home, I lived there, but got the hell out. There's a great way to improve it but that'll never happen.

So appreciate all the fun things in Baton Rouge while it rots from the inside.

Sound like a plan for success.

Probably already been stated, I'm not reading through.

I'm a Baton Rouge native. The city was great growing up there in the 80's and it was still good in the 90's. I visit occasionaly as I still have family there. I couldn't imagine living there now. I can't put my finger on it, but it's just not the same place anymore. The aftermath of Katrina really kicked Baton Rouge in the balls, and things won't get any better under Mayor SJW.

Keep those blinders on and ignore what is really going on. Your property value is steadily declining.

Of course they love to be miserable. That's why they live in BR.

There are more vagrants around the City than I can ever remember. I had a run in with one recently at the Shell station on Acadian. As I was getting back in my Truck from pumping gas a guy grabs my arm opens the door all the way and starts cussing at me. I pulled my P320 stuck in his face. Luckily he backed off. Dude was on something. Didn't have a shirt on and was just talking crazy. He actually told me kill me motherfricker.
