I was surprised they denied them too. The letter said they denied the claim because the charges were “verified with your credentials.” Not sure what credentials they are referring to. One of the charges is the night we were at a wedding together. We are going to try calling the vendors as welll as Visa.

Likely means the PIN was used, but could refer to signature and/or ID check.

Yeah, someone had a physical card and was using it "properly".

Write letters. Phone calls didn’t happen if you ever get in a pinch.

Thanks Jude, we’ll be asking to see what proof they have. I’m intrigued.

Generally Visa and MC branded debit cards have the same or similar fraud protections as the credit cards.

Not even close.

Also hard to believe Pops couldn’t get ANYONE at regions on the phone for a week.

That's strange that the bank denied his claim, unless something else is going on that you're not aware of. If I were him, I'd go to my local branch and speak with the branch manager. If they can't help fix the problem, get in touch with the division manager. Managers don't like customer complaints, especially division managers, and will get in touch with whoever is in charge of the fraud department to see what is going on.

When I worked at the bank, I had a customer contact me about some strange charges on her card. I investigated it and found out that the charges were for Rick's Cabaret.

Some strip club's merchant services show up as something other than the name of club. I guess its so people don't have Larry Flynt's Barely Legal showing up on their statements.

Anyway, seeing that the charges were for a strip club, I knew I had to follow the rules of Man Law. I called her husband. "Look man, your wife is calling me about these charges, and it turns out that they're for Rick's. How do you want me to handle this?"

"I'll take care of it," he replied.

I don't know what he told her, but I never heard from her again about these charges.

They don’t have individual bank numbers online. It’s some bullshite routing system, and every time he would get to the fraud section, it would say “we’re experiencing difficulties.”

How's pop going to explain this, though?

yeah, Regions phone server system is worthless. I had to go to my local branch just to get the branch phone number.. you and your dad need to set up an appointment with your local branch manager and go from there. Don’t be afraid to escalate the matter.

Sounds like your dad partied hard and kept the car clean before, during, and after said partying. Which “nightclub” is his church of choice?

Sounds to me like your dad went to Walkons got black out drunk. Then went to some night club and doesn’t remember what happened

I HAD A FIDELITY DEBIT CARD THAT WAS STOLEN WHILE OVERSEAS. called THEM AND ALL DEBT WAS REMOVED. ON CREDIT CARDS I TRAVEL A LOT SO I SET MY CARDS SO ANY PURCHASE OVER $250 GETS A TEXT TO ME TO CONFIRM THE PURCHASE. IT IS A LITTLE PAIN FOR THE SALES CLERK AS THE CARD INITIALY SAYS DECLINED.

NOTE: TYPED WITH CAPS LOCK ON. TOO LAZY TO RETYPE. DEAL WITH IT.

You might have some protections if he sends a written letter detailing why it is fraud. However, you are not protected like a credit card.
quote:

If your credit, ATM, or debit card is lost or stolen, federal law limits your liability for unauthorized charges. Your protection against unauthorized charges depends on the type of card — and when you report the loss.

Really?

If your Visa Debit card is lost or stolen and fraudulent activity occurs, you are protected by Visa's Zero Liability Policy. That means 100 percent protection for you. Whether purchases occur online or off, you pay nothing for fraudulent activity.

Change banks. Most banks would refund debit card transactions if there is no history of abuse
