I can't believe this is a thing now. Proposals are crazy enough but now its spreading to high school dances? I don't get any of it.
My little cousin's BF recently asked her by going to eat sushi and they spelled out "prom" with rolls/sashimi on the plate. And they've been dating for 2 or 3 years now. You'd think it's just a given and he wouldn't need to make this big to-do of it.

Here you go:
Find a big field.
Have someone mow "Will you go to prom with me?" in the middle of it. Find a pilot and get him to use some flying hours and fly you and her over the field. When she sees it, ask her, "Will you?" And smile as big as you can.
