What does that actually mean?
It's an intellectual shell game made to explain away what we understand now about speciation and the immense diversity of life on the planet versus what they knew about it when the OT was written.
Kind is a very preschool way of snuggling up to species, but not quite. Kind is like "dog" or "fish." By using kind you can get closer to explaining how you can get everything in there, but then you're left with having to explain the explosion of speciation AFTER Noah.
Basically, arguing any of this topic with a Young Earth Creationist is worse than wrestling with a tar baby. It's a series of goal post moves, misdirections and mostly a complete lack of understand of what the actual sciences have to say on any of it.

Doesn't light disprove creation theory? I mean if a planet or a star is more than 6k light years away, how do they explain that? Do they just say that god preset the light to reach earth at a certain or something?

A rather detailed explanation if you've got some time to kill.

I'm not reading that morons long winded explanation. The simplest answer is usually the correct one. If you have to jump throUgh hoops to get around the speed of light, then you're nothing but a con man.

It's been a few years since I've argued this, but if I recall it's explained away by special pleading. Something along the lines of it was just made to appear that old...placed that far away, etc.
Like I said, and like he said...they start with ALL the answers to every question. Which is great, so long as all the available evidence fits neatly within the answers you have to accept. And, there was a time a LONG time ago when it did well enough.
The problem has been that as we've grown in our knowledge we've come to not just find new evidence but we've been ale to understand it with far greater detail than we could ever have done before. What that's done is force those who refuse to accept anything other than the innerancy of various religious texts (The Bible, The Koran) to either deny evidence as it comes forward to try and spin in such a way so that it still fits within it, regardless of how absurd the claims have to become.
Honestly...I'd give zero total fricks about this were it not for the fact that there are WAY more folks like this (who are buoyed by others who are fooled into the Intelligent Design camp which is Creationism Lite) in this country than you'd think and they have too much political power and can alter the education of ALL our children, not just their own.

Our understanding of Genetics completely ends any argument whatsoever.
Unfortunately people who don't understand such things will just ignore it because learnin is hard.

Ok, just my opinion... talking logically to a creationist is like going to Walt Disney and telling the little kids that there are no fairies, dragons, magical castles, enchanted hair, magical ice powers, talking toys, superheroes, or a galaxy far far away...
It's cruel and pointless... so pat them gently on their head, and let them have their little theme park.

Just to add...this right here is why it's a pointless endeavor in most cases to argue any of this with them. This is from AIG's website in the Statement of Faith section:
LINK
quote:
Section 4: General
The following are held by members of the Board of Answers in Genesis to be either consistent with Scripture or implied by Scripture:
Scripture teaches a recent origin for man and the whole creation, spanning approximately 4,000 years from creation to Christ.
The days in Genesis do not correspond to geologic ages, but are six [6] consecutive twenty-four [24] hour days of creation.
The Noachian Flood was a significant geological event and much (but not all) fossiliferous sediment originated at that time.
The gap theory has no basis in Scripture.
The view, commonly used to evade the implications or the authority of biblical teaching, that knowledge and/or truth may be divided into secular and religious, is rejected.
By definition, no apparent, perceived or claimed evidence in any field, including history and chronology, can be valid if it contradicts the scriptural record. Of primary importance is the fact that evidence is always subject to interpretation by fallible people who do not possess all information.
So...it doesn't matter how sound the evidence is, if it can't be explained away or MADE to fit into the already agreed upon facts, then it's clearly false and should be rejected.
Never EVER believe that bullshite about how we're starting with the same facts nonsense that guy ran out earlier. It's a con game...don't fall for it.

No they are not. Had to argue with people in Livingston Parish about this when they built Bass Pro. Bass Pro wanted a tax break on the taxes they collected to pay for part of the building cost. People flipped their shite claiming that the schools were going to lose money. But what actually happened is that the EXTRA money generated a smaller amount of EXTRA tax revenue for the first ten years. Sure, the revenue would have been even higher had Bass Pro just not been given the tax breaks, but they probably would've built elsewhere; which would've caused a zero increase in tax revenue. We can argue the merits of government incentives as it pertains to economic growth and development (I'm more against it than I'm for it, by the way), but that is a wholly separate issue than the question I originally asked.
Respectfully, I think you are missing my point. Again - I know neither of us are opining as to the wisdom of any particular tax break/spending - so we're good there. What I am saying is that a city not collecting certain taxes is the exact same as the city collecting those taxes and writing a check. Therefore, tax break = spending.
I'm not saying that the spending wasn't a good deal or that the city somehow has less money than they otherwise would; I'm saying that a tax break and spending look the exact same on a balance sheet.

Jesus Christ, people that think like you are fricking stupid. The point in a tax incentive is to lure a business that otherwise would NOT be located in the jurisdiction. THE MONEY WOULD NOT EXIST if it didn't come, and still doesn't. The principle is entirely dissimilar from writing someone a check and spending funds already in your possession.
I'm not going to respond because you missed my point worse than the other guy and claimed that I'm the one who is dumb as a result. You're wrong, FYI.

So in your mind if I say I was going to rob you of $100 but decided not to at this time, that's the exact same thing as me giving you a $100 bill? fricking brilliant.
No, that's not how it works in my mind. I was going to provide the more appropriate analogy but something tells me that if you try really hard you'll be able to come up with it yourself

You start at a place where the Flintstones is a documentary, so no we don't agree to pretty much anything.
And thats fine. We can agree to disagree and I'll tip my hat to you. However your post and several other posts here still baffle me why folks that dont believe the Bible have such a disrespect and utter contempt for those that do. I dont spew anger and angst toward anyone who doesnt agree with me and it further proves to me that really we arent battling facts or theories but a spiritual war is indeed influencing the conversation. If my view is santa claus and fairy tales why are you so passionate with your response? I dont take a stance that Im all knowing. Believe me, Im the worst of sinners. I just believe that I either accept 100% Bible or not at all. I believe 100%. We can shake our fist at God and call people morons for believing the Bible but it doesnt change who God is and will always be.

Sorry, but not. You don't get to play the "Poor me" card here. You are literally arguing in favor of STARTING with all answers to all questions and THEN pretending that we're both out seeking.
No...we're not. You're looking for verification for pre-held beliefs. It's ENTIRELY different.

This is where I tip my hat to you...honestly. I respect the hell out of that. Don't misunderstand...you're 100% wrong, and it's easy to prove that, but I respect the fact that you're not some wishy washy moderate who think he's got some decoder ring that can tell him which parts of magic from The bible are just fables and other parts are fact. When it comes to supernatural claims, I agree with this take...all or nothing.

You only believe what your Southern Baptist preacher tells you to believe. Do you eat shellfish? Would you sell your daughter off to her rapist? Wear multifabric clothes? Have you ever looked over your fence to see your neighbor mowing the lawn and think to yourself "working in Sunday, I really should kill him"?
Almost no one takes the Bible 100% literally anymore, whether they think they do or not. When Christianity did take the Bible literally, it was the Dark Ages. Now there is a religion on this planet that still takes it 100% literally, and it is Islam.

Are you suggesting that if one does not read The Bible as 100% factual in all claims then one is not a Christian?
