I think he meant that most production comes from ponds. If I’m not mistaken I want to say 90% of the crawfish production in Louisiana comes from farm raised/ponds. The other 10% comes from the basin. Also the basin doesn’t really kick in until the snowmelt can raise the waters high enough, April through August

Guy that lives by us said come by in Feb. 2.50 a pound. And already cleaned and sorted for large size. Never bought live before. Is this a good deal?

It all depends on the production in February. If the crawfish are abundant then yeah $2.50 is very possible. I’ve seen crawfish seasons taken off at the beginning of February and prices are very reasonable. It’s wait and see mode to see how the catch does over the next month. With an early Mardi Gras/lent I hope the production is good early.

And peel post this same lame shite every year.
Go back and research what prices were in 2022 and 2023 and see how normal the prices were compared to the rest of our food items that were shooting way up due to inflation.
Go back for the past 7 years or so and compare prices for May of each of those years and see that they really haven’t been up much except for the drought year.

This right here. Every year people are paying more money for all the different products at the store because of inflation and every year we have to remind people that the crawfish industry is also effected by inflation with inputs.

Every damn thing makes crawfish prices go up. Only thing that will make them go down is stop buying the little bastards.

preach. Im north of Dallas and crawfish has become the trendy thing. Last Fat Tuesday I went to a place offering $9.99 a lb. one day only sale and they ran out, people out the door. Regular price was 12.99 and they charge separate for corn and potatoes. Its such a joke

But restaurants will keep going up

Can’t get enough migrant slave labor this year: prices going up

I’ll tell ya what, I’ll make that deal with you. I’ll pay higher crawfish prices for fewer migrants.

Edit: for clarification

See the post above yours. Texas will buy them if you don’t. Also for some reason people that love crawfish in Louisiana will pay high dollar early prices no matter what.

Well beings that most of crawfish production is done with legal H2A labor. Thats why there’s not much of any crawfish production on the market. If there was illegals then farmers would have Mexicans working by now.
