The ability of some people have to devolve any and everything into politics is absolutely amazing. We're talking about crawfish prices and somehow Joe Biden, food stamps and climate change are dumped on this thread like a hot bucket of piss.

At these current prices eating crawfish is a luxury. If you can’t see EBT to purchase $9lb boiled crawfish as ridiculous then please say so

These are the types of people buying steaks to feed their dogs, so it's impossible to get them to feel guilty for using benefits for themselves no matter how frivolous the price of crawfish is.

And before you mention, yes I realize people fall on hard times and need these programs. However, they are also the ones who don’t become lifelong government dependents and also are not buying $9lb boiled crawfish.

Nahhh baw you don't understand how it be at all. They are entitled to it and it's your obligation to pay for it or else.

It's entertaining. The 'well they voted for them' crowd doesn't hold their own accountable.

The OT is all free market except when it comes to crawfish.

Truth is, if the demand went down, then you wouldn’t have this. However, each year it seems more and more restaurants now in places like Central and West TX are hauling those bugs in and selling them as fast as they can cook them.

And I don’t see that slowing down any time soon.

Sorry to take this circle jerk in another direction, but in your opinion, will the spillway catch be a shitshow as well?
I was just thinking this morning about all the little crawfish festivals and school fundraiser events that happen in April and May. This situation will cause them to have to cancel if it doesn’t get better

This is why the price will never be low. This year it’s just going to be ridiculous with such a low supply.

The market right now is supply driven
I don't think the demand is strong for $12+ boiled crawfish and they don't have many moving to Texas right now

The catch is really bad and lots of farmers who usually start in Dec haven't even started fishing yet
Some got their workers in - started fishing then sent them back to Mexico because they weren't catching anything

You implied I was paying employees below min and I was part of the problem. I was responding to your idiotic thought with facts.

Sao fully knows that alot of recipients scam the system and get way more help than they should. But admission of it doesn't fit the liberal mindset and philosophy so he'll ignore it and continue to question you the employer and others who feel like the welfare state needs to be completely overhauled and reformed to keep the spotlight off of the real problem.

These prices will bring the white boots of Pierre Part out in full force. Hopefully the spillway has enough water to allow fishermen to get into the woods.

Yep very true during a normal season it’s getting to as west San Antonio north as Dallas and east through most of Florida. Hell they even fly and truck crawfish as far as California the market is as strong as it’s ever been

Let's be completely honest for a second.

Are bugs all that good?

I mean people remember 25 years ago when it was mostly just a local thing and live were under a dollar. That’s what I mean. Yeah it wasn’t bad last year. I am in Texas and anything under $3 is ok with me. I will splurge early though.

For me it’s about the time spent with friends and family doing the actual boil. I enjoy it.

Ok. So will one of you farmers esplain me how the whole process works, from flooding the fields to bagging them up, you know, crawfish for dummies. And esplain how it goes to brokers/bait people and such and on to the consumer. I'll hang up and listen. And you can use whatever numbers you want.

My niece loves to help me. She’s been holding them since she was a baby. She can probably damn near boil by herself now at 8.

I enjoy them as well so it’s a win win.

Finally. Something we agree on.
