So if the processing plants have to shut down because they don't have anyone to peel crawfish, does that mean there's going to be a surplus of live crawfish and lower prices for those of us who buy by the sack?

Who am I kidding....it rained too much last night, so crawfish farmers have to raise the price anyway

According to the BLS there were 88,000 unemployed people in Louisiana in December. Start hiring some of them.

In theory it should. Double the supply and drop the price by 1/3 and you should see greater profit.

Unless the margins on tail meat were just that much better

You made the point yourself... Americans who would do this work are lazy, and are because they have all the entitlement programs supporting them. Reducing the entitlements would make more Americans find jobs. Employers will find a wage these people are willing to work for, and we will have more Americans employed and less people living on welfare.

No, they will send the crawfish to Mexico. frick em. If you can't survive paying competitive wages, you shouldn't be in business. Somebody will figure it out. We need these criminal business owners to move on.

Visa workers. They are paid, housed, and given a vehicle to get to and from lol. When you add all that up, it's not bad money for the small towns they live in

My problem is a large portion of their income is leaving the country instead of being spent in the USA. US businesses suffer.

People that do peel are not paid by hr, they are paid by the pound of meat they peel, and that is not a lot of $$$ . Had a guy try it and after working 8 hrs. only made $ 25, the pay is like .25 per lb of meat, so he never went back

Seems the oversupply of crawfish would make the market plummet

working isn’t in the plans for most of those. The only ones that will apply will be double arm amputees.

when I have advertised CDL jobs on job sites, I’ll get half the applicants without a drivers license. But that application keeps their check coming in I suppose

It is.

Total myth you can't find people to work for that.

Then why aren't a bunch of Americans applying. I'm literally telling you what is happening on the ground and you are coming back with some fairytale ideological bs

There are plenty of Americans hired by these places that run this equipment
We are talking about crawfish peelers here

If the farmers have to rely on subsidies and government help to get workers then maybe they are doing the wrong business. Just sell them live. But you won't do that because you got to have your f350s and your two-story houses. You can't live like a normal man and have you normal truck and normal house. You're spoiled

again this has nothing to do with farmers retard.

Also if peeler crawfish were in demand farmers would sell them live or to boiling places

In rural america, $20/hr is great money. The job has to be very shitty for there not to be hundreds of applications.

In an icebox 8-10 hours a day peeling seafood…I’ll pass.

I know a couple folks who worked ay a seafood peeling/packing facility in Acadia Parish a few decades ago. It’s now closed. It didn’t sound like a very appetizing job to work day after day.

I believe peeling crawfish would be a pretty tough task for automation due to the shite vein. I know that a guy near lawtell had invented a handheld device many years ago that could blow the meat out of the tail but he couldnt come up with a method to take the vein out.
