Do Geico, Progressive, and Allstate actually manage to sell insurance because of those commercials? I happen to like the Mayhem commercials, but Geico and Progressive are shitty most of the time.

Are these guys even trying to sell insurance with these commercials? At least the Mayhem commercials play on what the product covers. It's like Geico and Progressive are just trying to be funny.

If Geico could save me $600 a year, I'd be all over that. I'd be paying like $1000/yr.

For a great low rate you can get online, go to The General and save some time.

Insurance ads showcase and summarize all that is the pussification of American culture!

Guys wearing aprons, and my alltime most despised:

" We are so glad we had Liberty Mutual auto insurance with roadside assistance so that when our fully grown 30 year old son had a flat tire while out driving Liberty Mutual Roadside assistance could change the flat tire for him so he could get home safely to continue to live in our house."

WTF?

No, they just spend the money on the commercials because they have too much of it and commercials are expensive.

They do it for the reason you made this post. If you need insurance you will remember their names

Insurance and injury attorneys. They spend the most and make the most.

These companies pump billions into advertising each year. Highly effective.

So effective it is almost like turning a faucet on. When the conpany is ready to slow down growth as it’s becoming unsustainable with the current infrastructure in place, they simply dial back on the advertising. They have it down to a science

I remember their names because they are the major insurance companies, not because of their mostly shitty commercials. In fact, the shittiness of Geico and Progressive commercials makes me hate them and want to stay away from them. Especially Flo and her loser buddy and his millenial glee club.

i'd be more concerned at the effect that advertising has on people. i can't remember the last time i bought something because i saw/heard an ad. it confounds me the degree to which commercials actually work on people.

I don't think you understand how advertising really works. They aren't trying to literally make you buy their product on the spot because you saw it on a commercial. It's much more psychological and long term than that.

I called up Geico to get insurance - Yeah I actually called - and the woman asked me how I heard about them. I was like I don’t know maybe the 170 different commercials you run each week on tv had something to do with it.

There are massive insurance companies you've probably never heard of. You know their names because they are constantly on your TV, whether you like the commercials or not.

Or it could be because there are Progressive, Allstate, State Farm, and Geico offices all over the place...on the other hand, if GoAuto or The General didn't have their shitty commercials, I wouldn't even know they exist.
