If you work in industry in La, this shite is normal. Stop at a gas station at 4:00 anywhere near a plant or shipyard after work and the brown bags with beer rolling out the door will amaze you.
I don't partake much but if someone just has a beer for the ride it seems ok to me.

I like a beer as much as anyone but if you have to have one while driving you either have a serious problem or want to be seen drinking and driving by your friends which means you're a douchebag.

Throw the beer under the seat if you get pulled over. And look around before taking each sip to check for popo.
I love getting a 6-pack on Friday on my way home and cracking the first one open on the drive. I have about a 15 minute drive though and never get above 40 mph.

Yeah, it's funny how much times and culture have changed in this regard that so many people are in complete aghast outrage at something not 30 years ago or so, nobody would have batted an eye over.
