I'm not sure I agree with his argument either. I think the Berenstein spelling that can be found in some TV guides is supposed to be proof that it used to be Berenstein and this is proof that fell through the cracks. I don't think there is some distinction between what gets to stay and what gets changed.

True, which means that sometime between the 90s and now, the universe was altered.
But my one real explanation on the bears. They did change the name. The son took over in the early 2000s. In that video, there were no archives of publisher sites with either of the book. The latest he found was 2005 with stain. So the parents pass it on and die. Son has all the rights and changes the name.
Or it was always stain.

I follow your logic, but my retired schoolteacher mother has an attic full of them that all say "stain". So either they were all changed retroactively, or we migrated to a universe where it has always been "stain".

My theory is not time travel. It is multiple universes. And the fact that some people remember him hating it just proves that some of us from the "stein", "Mikey will eat anything" universe somehow came over to your pre-existing "stain", "Mikey hates everything" universe. I wish I could go back.
