What if she is the one causing all the "accidents"?

I had a co-worker at my last job that had 3 kids. Every damn week she'd miss a day or two because the kids kept getting "sick".

I was doing my job and hers. It was miserable.

I had an employee doing basically the same thing. Always had an excuse not to come in to work or come in late and coincidentally it usually fell on our busiest days. Didn't want to call bs on the funerals and look like the a-hole.

He tried to miss work one day because of a flat tire and he couldn't find a compressor. I asked for a picture of said tire and magically he found a compressor and fixed the tire in under 2 minutes. Found out all funerals and sick grandma were bs.

He is no longer my employee.

Lost my sis, my mom and then my bro-in-law all within 6 months unexpectedly this year. All separate and out of the blue events. frick 2016!!

Thank God I am not have to deal with the bs of work and trying to explain it all to everyone.

Your office should have a set number of sick days/vacation time during the year. Any more than that and she should be getting her paycheck reduced.

This is why you always take a picture with it if you get a flat.

I've only missed two days of work for attending a funeral (father) in about 15 years of being in the working world.

I have a fairly large extended family (i.e. who were all at my father's funeral) plus close friends that mostly live about a 5 hour drive away. I would feel obligated to attend their services if at all possible. It's probably at least 100 potential deaths in the next 20 years, which is kind of depressing to think about (aside from the challenge of missing as little work as possible).

Our company policy is a couple of days off for close relatives (parents, siblings, etc.) and PTO for everyone else. Most of my future PTO may need to be saved up for funerals.

Had some old ladies who used up every single minute of leave time for stuff like that. If some old former employee that no one had seen in 20 years died, guess who needed funeral leave time to go grieve for their dear friend?

Made it difficult to have any real sympathy for their crisis of the week.

You mean, like a former coworker who took extended leave for a "double mastectomy" and came back a DD? Her dad died twice. The list of crap she pulled could fill a book. Yeah, if her name is Sandy, start checking it out.

All depends on the business, and whether the employee is exempt salary, etc.

Where I work now I'm exempt salary. I don't have sick days, but have the usual vacation time. If I'm sick, I stay home. They also pay four days bereavement for deaths of immediate family members. Our hourly workers have sick leave and PTO, same bereavement though. Only time I touch a time sheet is when I'm putting in vacation.

Previous job I was "exempt salary" yet I still had to sign a time sheet each week accounting for my hours. We also were expected to work at night and on weekends of something went wrong, but no OT or comp time. However, if we took more than an hour lunch, it was expected we took PTO. Needless to say I'm no longer there.

All just depends on where you work.

That sounds miserable.

I work nights often (events, dinners, etc.), but I'm allowed to apply it at any other point in the week. So I usually will sleep late one morning or duck out early on Friday.

You've got your Junior Sopranos who scour the obits and Facebook to find a funeral they can leave work for.
