The John Hopkins link I provided above shows that some what when you look at the scale of testing. The % positive scale is a little misleading imo. Graphically it looks like a big spike recently but in reality, it has gone from 5% positive to 8% positive in the last month. Some of that could be explained by more required test for people that wouldn’t of been tested otherwise (asymptomatic).

How does more testing of people without symptoms explain an increase in % positive?

Contact tracing. When tests were limited they had people that were asymptomatic self isolate if they had been in contact with a person that tested positive. If they never showed symptoms it was very unlikely that they met testing criteria. . Now that testing is abundant those people are being tested.

In NC, in the largest hospital in Charlotte, the largest city....there are 26 Covid hospitalizations.. that’s 2-6 and we are still stage 2. But nothing political to see here....they got the RNC got run out of town.

The percentage of positives has been increasing lately
That as much as anything else has been concerning people
Though it should be noted that the % of positives isn't at peak
That being said, previously we were only testing those that had symptoms. Now we're testing people through contact tracing with no symptoms. So the fact that the % positive is still going up is a bit concerning.
All that being said, none of it matters if it doesn't stretch healthcare capacity to the limit.

Faster spreading (again as long as the health care system isn't overwhelmed in a particular area) is likely a good thing.
The caveat is we don't yet know how long the immune effect will last for. It is very possible that people that have had asymptomatic cases may have a very short immunity window. If this is the case then herd immunity will be hard to reach without an effective vaccine.

My point is the positive test % may have been much higher earlier on if otherwise healthy people with no symptoms were also tested. Comparing test data between now and Mar is like comparing apples to bananas. So many variables have changed.

We are also counting positive antibody tests as new positives, so very much overstating the positive rate, and due to testing limitations early on, understating the positive rate most likely.

I'm doing about 250 tests per day and getting around 30 positives.

The tests that have been used are not very accurate. They had to remove dozens off the market recently.....so the numbers aint right.
