Isn't the alternative to this measure just to arrest the people involved and shut down the site? It shouldn't be that hard to find a kid who watched online porn and now his parents demand justice.
When I was in high school there was a store notorious for selling beer to underage kids without carding. Hell, if you went there on a Friday night the place was filled with kids from high schools all over the city. Eventually the police moved in, arrested the proprietors and shut the place down. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.
Couldn't the same thing theoretically happen to porn sites?
Do you think the porn store proprietors were arrested in the 80s because little Billy found the VHS tape that daddy bought there and hid in the closet?
Now, who's name is the monthly bill for the internet service? The child or the parent?

The issue is that the internet is inherently international. When the law was first passed in Louisiana, I posted on here that it was going to have zero impact on the amount of porn consumed in the state. The effect it would have would be to push people away from the “cleaner, safer” sites towards rougher, less safe offshore sites that wouldn’t enforce the law. And that’s exactly what’s happened.

Its a huge problem and most kids don't have parents at home monitoring.
Sounds like "I want the government to raise my kids because I don't have the time to."

So old judge from Hawaii that travels around a lot. Sounds like a groomer. He wasn’t appointed to western district by Reagan but designated there by Roberts.
You’re splitting hairs here. He was appointed to the federal judiciary by Ronny Reagan, which is far more significant than Roberts placing him in Texas while he’s a senior judge.

Kennedy was appointed by Reagan as well. Democrats have been better at picking judges who stay left if not go even further left. Their process under Clinton and Obama became ironclad. Republicans were not and still are not as good at picking judges that stay with same view of the law as when appointed. They were even more hit or miss back then and when Democrats controlled Congress like they did when this judge was nominated.
Just saying judge was nominated by Reagan nearly 36 years ago for a district court based in Hawaii doesn’t really mean anything without reviewing his decisions (especially his more recent ones since his designation by Parker).

Or maybe we all should stop watching porn.

Yeah, I'm sure we could find a more direct correlation with how young parents give them distraction machines (tablets and phones) or social media.

meh. Pornhub not the same since they got rid of a category for amateur amputee porn.

Jokes aside, that gets at what I meant about this really only hurting the relatively clean and safe sites. As an example, PH years ago banned any content that “simulated a lack of consent.” So even 100% consensual professional videos with themes of blackmail, rape, coercion, etc, were wiped from the site.
Those are the kind of sites that are following the law to force age verification. All of the sites with hyper intense, borderline illegal content? Not verifying a damned thing. And they are now being flooded with traffic that used to go to the “cleaner” sites.

The judge probably likes to spank it himself and knows they will use this against the people and doesn’t want any part of it.
