To my knowledge it wasn't but man did the house shake from a nearby strike. I'm not talking about the house vibrating and rumbling from a strike -- I'm talking a full-on shake. As in a curtains shaking and dishes rattling, alarm blaring kind of shake.

I've never been in a building as it was struck by lightning so I don't know if a fire immediately develops or if it's something that happens over a period of minutes to hours. I even went up into the attic expecting to see a hole in the roof.

The wife kept saying the house wasn't on fire so we didn't get hit, which I agreed that makes sense but it was so freaking loud and violent that I was convinced we were hit.

Anyone ever been inside their house when it was struck by lightning or know what happens? I know a neighbor's home was struck years ago but there was no fire, just a very small hole in the roof with a crack in the drywall inside. Then I've heard of homes damn near exploding from lightning.

Why such a difference from one lightning strike to another?

Easiest way to tell is by sticking a fork into any active electrical socket.

Well, not the entire home, but I've heard of entire chimneys exploding, entire walls exploding along with parts of the roof. It just amazes me because depending on the strike, you could have severe damage or very minor damage.

My house was when I was little. All i remember was the loud bang, then the TV went out. Me and my dad went outside and there was a very small fire (like we stood there and watched it burn out it was so small and it was just at the bottom of the fence) where our wooden privacy fence met the house right under the little pole where electric/phone lines come in. I was only like 9 years old so I dont know what all was involved. I just remember my dad being super pissed off bc it basically fried the entire electrical system in the house. We had to get a new TV, Washer and dryer, all of the phones got messed up. I also remember him fighting with the insurance company on the phone about paying for all the new shite. Not sure if they did or not.

Happened to me when I was five.

Some lights worked and some circuits were fried. Busted a pipe. Hole in the roof. Sounded like an explosion inside. Assuming your electronics are good and not having any other issues, it was probably just a close strike.

My house was struck by lightning a few years ago. All the electronics connected to my receiver were completely fried. Washer, dryer, and a bunch of GFCIs were also done. With how charred some of my stuff was in the wall I'm surprised my house didn't catch on fire. To this day my dog gets extremely anxious every time the weather gets rough.

My parents house was struck by lightning 6-7 years ago. Wasn’t any evidence of a fire for 30 minutes. Thankfully my dad wasn’t at ease about it and checked the attic one last time when he noticed a small patch of insulation smoldering. He threw a bucket of water on it and my mom called the fire department. They ripped out a ton of insulation and found a small burnt section.

They have to nowadays. At least in Louisiana. If the policy is an HO3 or an HO5, then they're required to pay for any damage that occurs as a result of a lightning strike. Sometimes insurance companies don't play by the rules and then wonder why the customer gets lawyered up. They do it to themselves.

Every strike is different, but typically I see damage to low voltage stuff first, like garage door openers, modems, computers, TVs motherboards on HVAC units stoves and fridges

Luckily I didn't have this issue. They emailed a form, we listed everything that was broken and the price we paid for the items, they provided a check. Didn't ask to see receipts or anything.

It all depends on how much your behavior has angered Jesus.

My house was struck over the summer.

Hole in the roof, melted the vent tube from the bathroom vent, melted some electrical wires. No fire though.

Killed about 8k worth of electronics. Literally blew the screws out of LED lightbulbs on the other side of the house.

Yeah.
You scream like a little girl and shite your pants. Then you think about life and how precious it is.
Then you randomly start figuring out how many electronics just got fried when you need to use them.

You sure you didn't see a naked roid freak about right after?
You still have your clothes, your boots, and your motorcycle?
Have you checked?

Yes it fried the TV and the whole living room smelled like burnt electronics. It sounded like a bomb went off outside the door.

My parents house was struck a few years ago and it busted a water line in the slab all the way to the shower. That was a nightmare fighting with insurance.
