Nope.. made me sick watching

I get shaky 20’ in a tree stand.

To tighten some bolts? Sure.
I’d rather get paid more for standing around up high, with a view, than standing around watching the lobby built.

Your picture was the first thing that came to mind when I saw the thread title.
“ Hey Bill, John is messing around with your old lady” would not end well on that beam !

I probably could. The PPE they use is very safe. In the 1920s? Nah. Those guys were hopping around up there with nothing.

Dudes are relying solely on their harnesses leaning out.

I don't have good enough balance for that. They'd be fishing me back in from the harness catching me multiple times per day.

quote:What??? BLM supporters like the owner of Del Porto in covington said that black people built America therefore they can burn it down...except for her place.
Nope. Look up the Mohawks or whatever who did a lot of that in NYC way back without harnesses. Balls of steel for anyone who does that shite

Could you imagine dropping your screwdriver or a bolt or some shite? "Welp, there it goeessssssss."
ETA: Honestly, I don't think I'd have too big of a problem doing that job. I skydive, so heights don't really get to me, although before I started jumping they did. What really freaks me out would be having the crane operator's job.

They didn’t have OSHA back in those days. They had, “Oh, shite!”

Ole baw on the right in that old photo looks like he’s got a liquor bottle. Zero fricks given.

Imagine a lot of those dudes died in the early 1900s
Visit the Empire State Building. The tour is awesome. The rivet crews either all worked or none worked. Didn’t want to have a new man on the crew.
Only five workers died during construction. That’s incredible given ppe didn’t exist
Iron workers, by far, are true craftsmen

Just watching that makes me anxious, I hate high bridges, glass elevators, or hiking near ledges

These days with a harness and yoyo, yes. In the old days with no fall protection, frick NO.
