Costco self checkout is stupid now

Just got back from Costco. Had 10 items in my basket and headed to the self checkout and got turned away because I had a bottle of alcohol in the basket.
Had to get in the regular lines with several people deep while the self checkout were basically all open with no customers in sight.
I inquired and one of the employees said the brass was modeling this outlet like their California stores that don't allow alcohol in the self checkout lines.
That may be the straw that breaks this camel's back and re-up the Sam's Club card.

Food court is fricked now too. They no longer call out your number at mine. You order, and then stand in a line and give them your ticket

This exact thing happened to me yesterday. Luckily the chick directing the lines made a point to say no alcohol at self-checkout. So at least didn’t waste any additional time in line there only to get turned away.

The loss of your business and subsequent defection to Sam's Club will prove devastating to Costco.

Sam's does the exact same thing. It's to prevent minors from buying alcohol

The regular lines at Costco typically move so fast it isn’t worth self-checkout. And I almost never have just a few items anyway. And I can’t type.

Problem is Sam's went to all self-checkout and when you go to pay for your booze, they have to fly in a cashier from Uzbekistan in real time to check your ID.

If you use Sams Scan and Go, the person scanning your e-receipt verified your age. At least that’s how it work at my local Sam’s

who is there to check your ID at the self checkout register?

The local shitshow (Costco) in Houston has the booze in a "separate" store next door, they don't have it in the main area. Probably depends on the liquor laws by state.

Yeah but Costco has legit $10 sunglasses

Our Costco just has an employee available to help in self checkout and age verification when needed. Stupid for a store not to do that.
