Dorms/on-campus housing is a different animal. Back in the 80s you had dorms like Stadium and Pentagon; 50 years old or more, with basic accommodations and no A/C. Spoiled kids today can't hack that.
Is having a/c really spoiled?
And anyway those "spoiled" kids that live in those expensive dorms had no say in the decision to have them built. They were probably in elementary school when they were approved.

I can't believe how much tuition has gone up. To think back in the 1990s we got a great value at LSU. Part of it is less funding from the state and the other part is that administration has gotten way too bloated. Universities pay way too much to administrators and search firms and they hire way too many vice, assistant, associate, director positions.

all I needed for my job was a four year degree, I make more in a month now than my entire four year degree from LSU cost me, a great value indeed

Here is mine. I'm 31 non-traditional off campus student at a small public university (just finished undergrad last semester). Debt free too
Iirc, fall was 14 hours, spring was 12.

Another thing, what is it with these laundry lists of line items above and beyond tuition. Is that a public school thing (has it always been that way) or has it changed over the last 20-30 years? I don't ever remember seeing anything but tuition along with room and board separated. You had to go to the Campus Police office to get a parking permit and had to buy your books at a book store but there wasn't think nickel and dime shite that adds up to real money.

My favorite of those fees is this one....
GRANT IN AIDS/SEDS FEE– This fee funds grant and scholarship programs used to attract outstanding
students in various fields, thereby benefiting the entire student body
So, you are paying for other people to go to school.

Technically I got paid to go to school, for GI Bill and state veterans grant, so I am grateful for the taxpayers of this fine country, and they are welcome for my service lol.

Parking sticker for me was $100, my university had "free book rental", even though it's a general fee. Walk in and scan, walk out, return at end of semester. My community college had the same.

You EARNED IT through the GI bill. I have zero problem with that.
What is pathetic is that my cousin from Louisiana who is actively deployed had trouble getting his son in-state and TOPS at LSU.

My daughter's parking sticker was $300 this semester. Her twin brother does not have a car but his would have been higher at his school.

Yeah my university isn't large, still ridiculous though especially since upperclass parking wasn't anything special.
Mother frickin campus police gave me a warning my first semester because my sticker was on the driver's side instead of passenger side.

Fee bill was $484 for fall 1984 my first semester. Had a $4k scholarship that was going to cover all 4 years. My last semester in spring 1988 was over $1k.
I have a child starting next month and the amount after TOPS honors is deducted for this semester is over $1200.
But I guess about 10k for 4 years is not too bad after all.

You make an interesting point though. If neither the student nor university is profiting, who is?
