Bon Marche had the theatre, not Cortana.....
Saw Return of Jedi, Wildcats, and many others there. I was pissed when they closed the theater.

Bon Marche had a detached theater. Cortana's was actually in the mall.

And people are tired of inside malls
Why is that? Where else can people go to just hang out, socialize and be coaxed into buying shite they don't need in an air-conditioned environment?

The Bon Marche Twin was detached. But Cinema 8 (then 11 and 15) was connected to the Bon Marche Mall.

I only remember the twin, which was the early 80's. When did they have the other ones?

Mall of LA is headed to the crapper. The bottom floor is a flea market. Foreigners yelling at you to try products.
I read the Limited closed all stores. Sears is closing stores.
I think they should try and make some office space or something before it gets really bad.

We had a mall close here a few years ago. Sat empty for a while. The local city govt was going to buy it and move all city services to it, kind of a one stop place, and I actually liked that idea. Building and parking were there, just some renovation needed to turn it to offices. Would have been cheaper than new govt buildings.
Turns out, a church bought the property first, tore down all but one building and renovated.
That kind of thing needs to start happening to abandoned malls.

I was in Baton Rouge - off and on - from 1987 to 1997. I joined the Army there. I got married there.
Cortana was a great mall.

For tenants like Basil Hasan, manager of Hip Hop Fashion, losing Sears could mean the difference between viability and closure. After Macy’s closed last year, his sales dropped about 25%. He’s not sure he can afford to lose another 25%—or more.
Funny that a store that requires these major chains to be there in order to turn profits is the same store that likely lead to the mall's downfall. Although it is only aneed effect of the clientele. Once shops like this start moving in, everyone else moves out.

The others were there from the early 80s through the late 90s. They were located at what is now Venyu's data center.

Put a Chick Fil on the outside with a drive thru on the outside of the mall and immediately people will show back up. LOL

Yes and incorrect.

Those shops killed off Southpark Mall in Shreveport. The black teen demographic is a mall killer and it is not just "white flight." Black shoppers over 25 will also stop shopping at the mall.

This
Growing up in NBR...that movie theater inside Bon Marche was actually our go to theater. I saw several movies there. Can remember walking to Woolworth's right next to the movie theater when it was still open and buying candy there to sneak into the movie. Also....the video arcade was located near that theater as well. There was a Fashion Gal (that I shopped at often in HS) that was technically located outside the mall that was also near the entrance of the mall nearest that theater.

You just brought back some memories. I remember seeing Batman there back in 89 when I was 6 and asking my parents for quarters to play arcade games before the show.

I can remember for my birthday in 5th grade my dad took me and like 5 of my friends to that movie theater to go see "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure"
Also....we always would hit up that McDonalds in Bon Marche before/after a movie. It was even more exciting as a kid when it was shamrock shake time there

He addressed that the other day. States that his business started out on Perkins Road, but has since moved after a couple of years. He did not state where he moved to.
I have not heard him address his personal address, except that he referenced Glen Oaks and North Baton Rouge a few times.
He said he wanted his crappy organization to be the "urban 225" magazine so he wanted it to be in a "hip area" and that rent was only $1000 per month. However, I find it incredibly hard to believe that he couldn't have found office space cheaper in NBR. I think he was more concerned with the "hip" location. Then, they got militant and realized that they wouldn't have any street cred if they were sharing a parking lot with Magpie and eating lunch at the Bulldog.
